New Glam: Sweet Creature

Stockholm-based Sweet Creature is a new hard rock band fronted by Martin Sweet, best known as the lead guitar player of glam/sleaze metal band CRASHDÏET.
Martin Sweet describes the music as old school hard rock with gloomy lyrics and melodies. The band's debut album will be out October 25. Here's a sample of their sound.

I'm digging it. I love Crashdiet. Everything I've heard from Sweet Creatures has been good.

I'm sorry, but I just can't get into this. the overly-obvious ProTools production is lifeless, the vocal delivery is robotic, there is no guitar solo, they didn't even bother to come up with a decent ending for the song, and the lyrics are just dumb and contrived. I'll have to hear more before deciding what I think about the band overall, but this song isn't a good start.

I agree with Bob. Nothing to get excited about from this tune.

I'm a huge Crashdiet fan, but I just can't get into this...mostly because of the vocals/lyrics. I really want Crashdiet to carry on, but I fear that they may have Sweet take the vocal duties. I hope they find a singer that is deserving of the title of "Crashdiet lead singer."

Like JAT, I like it but Bob addresses what I heard, or rather, did not hear, last night... I thought I must have dozed off during the guitar solo, so I went back, only to discover there isn't one.

That, plus not exactly great vocals, as Bob and D. Frank also raise. But still, overall, I like it. It just doesn't compare to CRASHDÏET, a band I LOVE!

I really thought CRASHDÏET were getting somewhere, playing some high profile gigs in the U.S., setting the stage to possibly really break big with a killer album AND if they could have latched onto the Gn'R tour as an opening act or something, at least in Europe.

Sweet and company probably threw in the towel out of frustration the last album didn't take off but they probably should have stuck it out a little longer. Maybe, as D. Frank points out, with a new lead singer, they can carry on and finally make it.

Okay, I just checked out Apple Music... Sweet Creature does have hope after all... Their other single released in 2016, "Burning The Midnight Oil", which will also be on the new album, is MUCH better and even has a hellacious guitar solo! Check it out:

MB!, my good sir, thanks for the link to "burning Midnight Oil." I agree, it is much better than that other snorefest, but it's like sayin that dropping a bowling ball on your foot hurts less than being kicked in the unmentionables. The fact remains that Sweet is not much of a singer, and this song, while way better, reinforces his vocal deficiencies. Plus, this song is a clash of musical ideas that don't fit together. You have an opening riff that suggests good-time party rock, but then the verses sound like that stupid post grunge pile of crap, "She Hates Me" by Puddle of Mud. I get that Sweet is trying to do something different, but it just doesn't click. My issue isn't with multiple musical ideas in the same song. For an example of how to do this right, listen to the early glam classic, "go all the Way" by The Raspberries. It almost sounds like two different songs smashed together, but the two ideas still fit somehow. I can't say that for this sweet creatures song.

I hear ya, Bob, but remember, it is Sleaze Metal we're talkin' here -- the voice is supposed to sound half shot. I dunno, the guy sold me on that blistering solo on "Burning The Midnight Oil".

I also get what you're saying about how too many different musical ideas rammed together in one song, rarely works -- case in point, every Cheap Trick album after "Standing On The Edge" and that's being generous when you consider "Heaven Tonight" should be the cut off.

I hear ya as well, MB! I should have been more clear about my opinion of sweet's vocals. To me, his voice doesn't sound half shot. He has a decent-sounding voice, but his delivery is very insincere and robotic. Look, Taime Downe is never gonna give rob Halford a run for his money in the voice department, but Downe's delivery is so sleazy and real that you can actually believe he did get that chick's number off the bathroom wall. Sweet's vocal delivery almost sounds like someone handed him these lyrics for the first time, and he is trying desperately not to sing any words wrong. There's no emotion, no soul, no attempt to make me buy what he's selling if that makes any sense. Is he a helluva guitar player? Absolutely. does he need a singer? Even more absolutely.

I like this I'll have to dl the cd and check the rest out if it's as good or better it will be in my next amazon order. I believe the bass player is from Gemini five they have a few killer tracks too.
