Farewell Prince

This is too much. Music icon and guitar god Prince has died. He was just 57. Didn't see this one coming.

My favorite Prince song of all time is "7." Let this be a reminder to go see your music heroes live while you still can.

The man exuded stardom, and could put many a shredder to shame in the guitar. RIP Prince.

Although I'm a rocker at heart and it took me a little time to catch on too just how awesome he was, he was hands down one of the best shredders and performers on the planet. Uber talented. Guy wrote some incredible hooks and songs. Just Another Manic Monday is one of my all time favorite songs. Guy was a hook machine ( I defy you not to tap your foot to "Cream") . The Bangles owe him their career, along with a helluva lot of other performers he mentored or wrote for. Gods house band just got a helluva lot funkier. I absolutely did not see this coming either Ally..l

and remember Gary, Prince had a connection to us 'rockers' and to Frank Zappa...if it wasn't for Prince and his song, "Darling Nikki" on Purple Rain which Tipper Gore bought her daughter for Christmas, Tipper wouldn't have gotten her ass chapped, which started the PMRC.

I knew a girl named nikki
I guess u could say she was a sex fiend
I met her in a hotel lobby
Masturbating with a magazine
She said how'd u like 2 waste some time
And I could not resist when I saw little nikki grind

Yep, this one was a shocker. Not so much into his music, but there's no doubt he was an absolute genius. Btw, we lost another musical genius about a month ago, Keith Emerson, but there wasn't a peep out of this site about it. Another year of unexpected and extremely sad losses, and we're not even through April yet.

I hope that this is not true...

I know that I've said that one of my bucketlisters is to try Heroin in order to emulate some drug-using rockers (Keith Richards, et. el), but in all honesty, I wouldn't have the stones to follow through with it. And actually, I recently had some mild surgery and the surgeon prescribed me oxy-codone (poor man's heroin) to help with recovery. I've never had this medication before. I took it for three days. Each day it made, it made me nauseous and vomit. I called the doctor's office and was told that I was probably having an allergic reaction and I should stop taking it. I flushed the Rx and took over-the-counter ibuprofen instead.

I sincerely would not wish drug addiction on anyone.

Regardless of the music genre(s) you prefer, Prince was a musical genius. Its that simple, the world is a darker place without him. Genius at playing instruments (he was self taught on 26 different instruments) and he could write a hook. Sad day indeed.

A true test of how ingenious his songwriting could be is that it worked in any genre...

bob and badland: I did read about emerson's passing. I wasn't a fan or a hater; just simply not into his music. I learned a very long time ago that I can't [insert verb here] (save, cure, teach, help, etc...) the world. I gotta pick and choose. Offer it up, give credit, respect the dues (or do's) that we each put in. I can't post about anything and everything, although some of you out there believe that I can (and do).

ELP was more 70's. I am more 80's. But, I appreciate and respect the positive impact his music had on society.

But, now, for some 70's influence...keep pushin' till it's understood and these badlands start treating us good!

Fletch,

Please don't ever try heroin. The addiction crisis is ripping poor and middle class America apart right now. I agree with you, I wouldn't wish addiction on anyone. Truly terrifying.

Also, I saw the Prince OD thing on TMZ. I don't think it was illegal drugs. More likely doctor prescribed for pain, which is also a huge American problem. We'll know soon I guess.
