Before Motley Crue, There Was Whitehorse

Before he was in Motley Crue, Mick Mars was in a band called Whitehorse. Some old audio clips and photos of that band's performances have been popping up on YouTube lately. Here's Whitehorse doing a cover of "Blowin' Free" way back in 1974. Very cool, vintage stuff for a Monday.

Going from memory here (which is very suspect) and I am sure someone knows for sure but I believe Whitehorse was from San Diego? The San Diego paper did an article on them explaining that Mick was performing long before the Crue. I can't remember the exact reason for the article but I remember seeing it..

Pretty cool vintage stuff. Who is the burnout introducing? Wow, kinda like Jeff Spicoli at 60 years old.

Dude intro-ing the video definitely didn't heed the warning about the brown acid at Woodstock. Besides that, gotta dig Mick's killer porn 'stache baby. Looks like Rod Price from Foghat (google him young ins,guy played a wicked slide guitar back in the day) \m/

Gary, Rod Price was a hell of a slide player until his dying day. I was fortunate to see the fully-reunited Foghat lineup in 1996 on a double bill with Mountain. Foghat absolutely tore the place up, still playing like they were in their 20s. Rod's slide playing was on fire!

I (& every other musician in L.A.) knew the bassist, Harry Clay. After this he has a music store , Visions Music at the corner of Selma & Cahuenga. Harry now has a successful pool service in Simi Valley.

Cool Bob! I saw Foghat in 1978 with Rainbow. Talk about a kick ass show.. My ass didn't touch the seat the entire 3 1/2 hours. Lmao
