A Few Tidbits On The 'Lost' Damn Yankees Album

The debut Damn Yankees album is one of my favorites from the glam era. I loved the followup too... then the band just sort of ceased to exist. Apparently the band members did record a third album, but it wasn't good enough to get label support and that was the end of it. Now Sleaze Roxx has a little story one that long lost album. Vocalist Damon Johnson apparently sang on one of the tracks. I'd give a whole lot to hear that song!

Click this link below and go read the entire story. The article is based off a podcast interview with Johnson. Good stuff here.

Damon Johnson might be the only one from that group who wants that lost album to come out. jack Blades is adamant that it will never see the light of day, and Nugent doesn't have much interest in reviving Damn Yankees either. Check out this excellent story done by Ultimate Classic rock about the history of the band, including quotes from the actual band members about that lost record.

One thing I will say about Damn Yankees is that they were excellent in concert. I saw them at Radio City Music Hall with Jackyl as the opening band. Great show!

Favorite Damon Johnson for me was Brother Cane. Another early 90s band.

Bob : Thank you for the link, that was a great read. I missed them when they were a band but I still have them on my bucket list, lol.

damon johnson is great. he comes around doing his solo band shows as well as a solo acoustic set all the time. well worth the money. maybe next time we can talk him into playing his lost damn track.

saw Brother Cane open for Bad Company with the other guy singing, and Lynyrd Skynyrd - I could tell back then Damon was a talent and I think he is from Alabama...

Brother cane were awesome, but I never saw them in concert. I did see Bad Company twice with Brian Howe, (the other guy): once opening for Deep Purple, and once as a headliner with Kix opening. Brian Howe is a great singer, but he didn't sound good doing the Paul Rodgers tunes.

Ted Nugent is a racist, sexist, misogynist child rapist (as for the latter, ask Courtney Love whose father was his roadie and brought her on the road with them). And, the fact that he hasn't sued her about her allegations when she wrote about them in her autobiography and talked about it on various talk shows, is very telling.

Anyway, I refuse to spend any money on that POS and whenever Nugent or DY comes on the radio, I switch channels. I'm glad the third album is lost. It's probably as absurd as his mentality.

@ fletch "Ted Nugent is a racist, sexist, misogynist child rapist ".

And those are his good personality traits....

As opposed to all other rock stars who are upstanding pillars of temperance and virtue; and who have equal respect for all people regardless of race or gender. Look, I agree that Nugent is a maniac, but if you refused to listen to any musician whose views and/or actions you don't condone, you won't be listening to much music at all.

Fletch nailed it.

I remember watching Ted open for Kiss on the reunion tour and he started complaining about Mexicans. I left my seat, got a beer, and refused to return to my seat until he was off the stage.

I will never support Ted in any fashion ever again.

Politics are the most boring, useless topics of conversation, of all time. I hate when any of my teams or bands try to get political. It's lame, wack, & pathetic. However, I never let their stances or beliefs factor into my enjoyment of the music. Damn Yankees were a great band that released 2 legit albums. I'd love if this was released, or better yet, if they got back together and made another album!

Bob: You make a valid point. However, sometimes, you just gotta 'draw the line' versus stepping over a 'thin red line'. The three "artists" that I won't support are Ted Nugent, Michael Jackson and GiGi Allen. Imagine that motley crue. (you see what I did there). I'm sure there are more people who should make the (my) list, as many of our beloved musicians have done some horrendous things; especially the guys in motley crue (see what I did there, too).

Even John Lennon is known for having been a mean SOB, too. And, Kid Rock is dangerously close to entering the Nugent mentality, at times. Axl Rose? Still on the fence about him despite all of nefarious behavior. But when I look at Nugent's particular archetype, well, "What we've got here is... failure to communicate. Some men you just can't reach. So you get what we had here last week, which is the way he wants it... well, he gets it. I don't like it any more than you men."

This album isn't that "lost"...it's been in trading circles for years.

Ted Nugent goes on his offensive, calling Courtney Love a liar and an heroin addict. Doesn't deny his behavior. He beats up his victim. Hmmmm....
