Melodic Rock Fest 5 Looks Amazing

Melodic Rock Fest 5 will take place from May 4 to 6, 2018 at the Home Bar in Arlington Heights, Illinois. The lineup features a lot of Glam - including the very first American performance by Crazy Lixx. This means I really want to go to this festival. Tickets go on sale in September. Performing in the US has been a longtime goal of Crazy Lixx. I'm excited it's about to happen for them.

Holy Sh*t! This IS AOR Heaven, Allyson!

AND far enough off in the calendar, I may be able to get the bucks together to attend... Just imagine the possibilities ...

The Defiants is Danger Danger minus Ted Poley. Their current album is AMAZING, certainly due to, in no small part, to the great vocals of Paul Laine, the guy who replaced Ted Poley as lead vocalist in 1993 when he left the band following the recording of their final album with him.

Laine was then hired by the band in 1994 and they had him rerecord the album's vocal tracks. Epic was due to release the album with the new Laine vocals, when Poley slapped the band and Epic with a lawsuit blocking it's release and damning it to the vaults until 2001, when Epic finally released the album as a 2-CD set titled, "Cockroach" (a reference for it's refusal to die), including both versions of the album, one with Poley's vocals and the other with Laine's, plus a helluva great set of liner notes.

Poley has since rejoined Danger Danger (2006) and when they aren't touring, the band records and tours as The Defiants, essentially Danger Danger, Mach 2, as it features Laine. (Special Thanks to original BBGer, Kenny Ozz! I am eternally grateful to you for turning me onto this amazing Rock & Roll artifact and incredible piece of Hair Metal / 80's Hard Rock / Melodic Rock / Glam Metal History or whatever the hell you wanna call it, haha!!)

So, obviously, on Friday, The Defiants are a must see!!! AND the same goes for ALL of the headliners on Friday, Jean Beauvior, Crazy Lixx (Yes, Allyson!), Grand Design and Station! Same goes for Saturday with another incredible line-up featuring HEAT, Adriangale, Far Cry and Roadkill. Unless you really feel you need to see Paul Laine again, you can go ahead and skip Saturday.

You know, I take that back ... Sunday is pretty awesome, too! Though FM is some of The cheesiest 80's Style AOR / Melodic Rock on the Planet, it would be amusing to see them, anyway.

I also imagine Paul Laine would be impressive as I imagine he'll perform songs from "Cockroach" as well as tunes from his recent and past solo efforts and stints in other bands over the years.

And there's also Boulevard, Shotgun Symphony and Radio Sun, who are all quite good, if not on quite the same level as Friday and Saturday's headliners.

I'm also going to investigate the rest of the roster to see who else is performing on what is sure to be an incredible festival!
