Ozzy Looks Terrible

“He had a little cut on his thumb. You know when you pull the side of your nail and he just left it. And then he hit it on a door. It started to get bigger and bigger, and then his middle finger, the same thing happened … and Saturday morning we took him into the emergency room and what had happened from a tiny thing here on the side of his nail, it had turned into two different infections in his hand.
He had to have this operation where they cut the side of his thumb and this [middle] finger and they had to get rid of the infection. It’s been from something you think is absolutely nothing, he’s still in hospital today. It’s unbelievable. He’s on an antibiotic drip, two different kinds and he’s just stuck there… eating ice cream.”
The good news it that Ozzy does seem to be getting better, albeit slowly.
I cant wait to get out of here tomorrow, thank you to all of the wonderful Doctors and Nurses taking care of me.

And I wasn't sad because I wasn't getting to see Ozzy. No. I was sad because I was missing the experience and a chance to see Zakk again . . . with some close friends who I care about a lot and have known since grade school. We all know what you get with Ozzy these days. Heck, Steel Panther do Ozzy better than Ozzy does these days. So it isn't strictly about the music anymore, at least when it comes to live shows like this.
Previous weekend? Saw Priest and Purple at Shoreline. I was going to write a review. But I just couldn't. That night I went for the music as much as the experience. And I should have stuck with the experience instead. Paice, Gillan, and Glover, not to mention Morse and Airey, were doing a great job given all the marks against them (age, some spotty/some great songs in recent years). Gillan was singing (wailing?) more within his limited range these days. But the band--from the songs chosen, even the new ones, and the staging--was a pleasure to watch (and I was glad to hear "Hush" as the encore, as well as the two obvious cuts off of _Perfect Strangers_). Priest? I hope it was an off night. They weren't helped by a crap sounding mix initially. And they seemed, well, tired. It felt rehearsed . . . and not in a good way. Halford looked like he was going to take a nap on the motorcycle. For all the visual spectacle (think fire and robots and the like) the band itself seemed lesser than the stage they occupied. They did, however, pay visual tribute to Tipton in his absence. Like I said, I hope it was an off night.
My point? These days, go for the experience and come away surprised if the music moves you. It is safer that way. And, heck, if the experience gets canceled, be happy. That means you still might get to see it at some point and/or can go out with friends for a nice night on the town.
I wish Ozzy a speedy recovery. I hope those that go to the rescheduled show have the time of their lives.
