Dueling Woodstock Fests

There will be dueling Woodstock Festival to commemorate the 50th anniversary of the original, iconic event. It's sad everyone can't get together to have one big, proper Woodstock party but that's the world we live in now. I'll be in Spain when this is happening - otherwise Eric and I would have likely gone to one of these events. Who knows, maybe this will be carried live like Woodstock '94. I remember watching that on the floor of my childhood bedroom. Aerosmith headlined the Saturday night of that fest and I was so jealous I was too young to be there.

quite frankly, I agree with lang -- Watkins glen is a perfect location for this 50th year celebration. That area already has a history of big Summer music festivals, so it's just a matter of the weather holding up. Phish was all set to do their big Curveball festival at Watkins glen last year. People traveled there from all over the country, and SiriusXM was on hand to broadcast the whole weekend live, but then it got completely flooded out, and had to be canceled. the Bethel woods show will be nice, but lang's thing sounds way better. Back when I lived in NJ, we used to go up to Woodstock each august where a small group of devotees would gather for an informal weekend of camping and music. That's where we met Buddy Miles, and how I eventually ended up playing with him live.

Yep, MB!, I did a gig with Buddy back in '96. I think I've told the story on BBG somewhere before. I'll see if I can find that story. buddy was a great musician who played with legends, yet he was a super nice and generous man. I still have a Christmas card from him in this house some place.

Him, I have an audio recording of about an hour of that show taken from the soundboard. It's nowhere close to being the whole night, but at least it's some of it. The guy who owns the little venue we played in has an audience-shot video tape of the whole gig, but the one guy I know who still knows where that guy is had a falling out with him about 20 years ago, so I'm afraid this 60 or so minutes of audio is the best I've got.

Ah, Barcelona. Wonderful, Allyson. Love that town. May I suggest a place for dinner? Bambarol (http://bambarol.cat). Energetic and lovely, a wonderful place to have a meal. Regardless, have a great time and do share with us some of your experiences. Italy too?!?! Wow. What a great adventure. I love the mainland. But there is something about Sicily that just keeps me coming back.

Him, I haven't shared that audio with anyone so far. I have played snippets of it on my Internet radio show over the years, but that's essentially it. It was such an intimate gig at a little studio in Clinton, NJ. there couldn't have been more than 50 people there, and Buddy was using my friend's band to back him up instead of his regular musicians. So the gig was a tremendous amount of fun, but it is also very informal with long periods of Buddy just chatting with the audience, (He was very engaging and funny), and some occasionally ragged playing because these musicians weren't used to playing with Buddy. Plus, the sound would get wonky from time to time. In other words, it was an incredibly fun gig if you were in the audience, or on stage, but I doubt it would be much of an enjoyable listen for somebody who wasn't there.

Appreciate the follow up, Bob. Sorry it took me so long to reply. I totally understand. Sounds amazing though. And I still might pull the trigger on the invite to listen to your show. It sounds like you have a good time ranging across musical landscapes.
