Bonnaroo Lineup Is A Pass For Me

Well, I don't need to spend my money on Bonnaroo, that's for sure. Headliners include Phish, Childish Gambino, Post Malone, the Lumineers and more. I'm totally old because none of these acts do it for me. Phish is playing more than once. I was never into them but I know some folks worship them like gods, so enjoy if that is you. Tickets go on sale tomorrow. This will sell out rapidly.

Bonnarwho?

Seriously, the only act in the entire list that even remotely resembles a ROCK band is Rival Sons.

However, I DO like Beach House when I feel like chillin’ to some Electronica.

That lineup is so not my thing. I'd have trouble staying awake.

I decided to check out one of the bands at random, and wound up on the youtube page of the Magic City Hippies. "Miami's Indie Funk" is how they advertise themselves. it took 25 seconds ... maybe ... before I ran for the O'Jays to cleanse my ears of that decidedly funk-less nonsense. I know I'm old, but that was dreadful.

I am heartened by the fact that many of you are now feeling what I described a few months ago. That creeping sense that big (and even smaller) festivals are more and more not speaking your language when it comes to music. But, as I said then, as the tastes of fans change so goes the market.

And, yes, I do realize that Bonnaroo and Coachella (both big events) and Bumbershoot and Outside Lands (smaller and more regionally minded) are not targeting metal folks.

Enjoy those VHS copies of Donington and Day on the Green!! Cheers!!

I know most of y'all don't like and probably even hate rap lol, but Post Malone & Childish Gambino are huge right now. I love rap so I'd actually love to see Post Malone! I'd rather watch this than some rock group full of 80 yr olds, trying to act like they still rock when they're really lame as hell & should be in a retirement home playing bridge with the other elders! Lol

@Him .... if I had a time machine, I'd go see the Dortmund festival in 1983. At least there's YouTube for that.

Gogmagog, you are speaking my language! To be at a show like that, at that tiime, with those bands. AMAZING! And I rarely do a "screaming" all-caps. Did you notice my shout out to you a few weeks back? I mentioned you (if by inference) in a post about Maiden. I think we would both be at the same concerts if we could travel back in time. An excellent choice.

Bkallday, interesting that you mention Childish Gambino/Donald Glover. May I ask: what was your take on his video for "This is America"? I found it provocative in all the right ways. It was basically a history lesson set to music. Not music I normally listen to, mind you. But I am open-minded enough to give a listen and look to things that are/were capturing people's attention.

Kenny, rhetorical question: what if it was on your side of the street? I kid.

Him, I did get your reference. And I will be going to see Maiden this summer. If only Ozzy, Quiet Riot, Krokus, MSG, Priest, the Scorpions and Def Leppard could open for them!

Yeah HIM, it was a very interesting video. Anything that can bring some awareness or attention to the garbage that a lot of minorities hafta deal with, is alright by me!

Glad you got my nod, Gogmagog. I figured you did (and that was reaching back a bit in musical history). I again agree. Can you imagine witnessing that line-up?

Another thing we agree upon, Bkallday. Cheers!
