Michael McDonald To Reunite With Doobie Brothers

Michael McDonald and the Doobie Brothers will reunite in 2020 for a 50th reunion tour. This is a tour I will not miss! I love McDonald and I love the Doobies, too. I get on a kick and put them both in the rotation at work. The tour dates are below the Rolling Stone tweet.

Allyson, speaking as someone who was a huge Doobies fan long before McDonald was in the band, this is not necessarily good news. Yes, Mcdonald took them back to the top of the charts, but in doing so, their sound completely changed into something that, while it fit his voice perfectly, was not the Doobie Brothers anymore IMHO. I wish them success of course, but I think I'll be steering clear of this reunion tour. Give me "china Grove" over "You Belong to Me" any tday of the week.

Tend to agree, Bob. But it is cool that fans of all eras will get a chance to see the band perform their hits with some of the members who were around for the ride.

More importantly, this means that McDonald will stop following Peter Griffin around. Finally!

The key is they’ve got Tom Johnston to sing and play guitar on “China Grove”, “Listen To The Music”, “Rockin’ Down The Highway”, “Jesus Is Just Alright”.

To be honest, they lost me with “Black Water” and never got me back.

Of course, there IS Stryper’s fully Metalized cover of “Jesus Is Just Alright”, even if Michael Sweet claims that is the only flaw on their killer album of covers, “No More H*ll To Pay”, a comment I simply don’t get as that album including “Jesus ...”, is ALL killah, no fillah!!!
