Paul Raymond, guitarist and keyboard player for UFO has died. He was 73. The cause was an apparent heart attack. Raymond had just finished a tour with UFO.

Paul Raymond played on one of the best live albums of my teenage years: MSG's One Night at Budokan. I know there are detractors but I don't care.
Also saw him with UFO (and Allyson and Eric) a few years ago in Dayton... still fantastic with Mogg and Vinnie Moore.
Good times and he will be missed.

and he played on UFO's live "Strangers in the Night" album which was also excellent.

I saw him with UFO a few years back on The Monsters of Rock Cruise. Raymond was a h*lluva musician and a sweetheart of a guy who was always gracious to the fans and the consummate performer on stage. No poseur was he, giving the badge “Rockstar” class and dignity when so few others wear the title with that in mind.

Paul Raymond was the kind of musician that not enough musicians in that genre are: a tasty player. He didn't try to show off in his playing, but always played the exact right thing to compliment the song and the rest of the musicians. If you can, try to track down an album by Mogg/Way called Chocolate Box. It was, essentially, UFO, but with Jeff Kollman on guitar. there is a track on that record called "Jerusaalem", and Raymond's piano part is so innovative and a little out there, and it fits perfectly into the slow chugging groove. You hear him play stuff like that, and it's really easy to see why he got so much work. Btw, saw UFO twice: once in the 90s with Schenker, and again about ten years ago with Moore. Raymond was great both times. He will be missed.
