On that Glam Rock note (Def Leppard are huge Mott The Hoople fans), Mott is touring the states for the first time in 45 years! It also seems inevitable they will also be inducted soon. Let’s hope Hunter being on stage with them helps Mott’s prospects as he and the rest of the band (including original guitarist, Mick Ralphs) are not getting any younger.
It would be a crime not to induct them right away as we would hate to see yet another repeat of a posthumous induction when it doesn’t have to be!
From Brian Mays’ induction of Def Leppard to Joe Elliot’s incredible acceptance speech (not a dry eye in the house for Rick Allen and Steve Clark to their incredible performance including bringing out one of their Glam Rock heroes to shine a light on why Mott The Hoople needs to be inducted post haste, it was an incredible night!
But I’m not going to diss the other acts. I think they’re all deserving, particularly The Zombies. However, Radiohead and The Cure should not have been inducted ahead of the long list of others who have been overlooked who are far more worthy.
And, sorry, but Janet Jackson should have NEVER been nominated. Her stuff doesn’t even merit a second listen.
Also, this thing of recognizing someone twice, once as part of a band and the second for their solo career, like Stevie Nicks, as great as she may be, is ridiculous and uninspired, again, when you consider there are so many acts that are deserving BEFORE anyone else gets a second nod.
The Chantels "Maybe" (1957)[147]
The Champs "Tequila" (1958)[147]
Barrett Strong "Money (That's What I Want)" (1959)[147]
The Isley Brothers "Twist and Shout" (1962)[147]
The Shangri-Las "Leader of the Pack" (1964)[147]
The Shadows of Knight "Gloria" (1965)[147]
One gross omission in my comments — ROXY MUSIC! Awesome band who deserve their induction as much as anyone as demonstrated by their killer performance on the show. Talk about hits to spare, they avoided performing “Love Is The Drug” for what I’m gonna guess are PC reasons.
Awesome fact(s) regarding songs that have been inducted, what those songs are and how few there are. Wonder why “Gloria” gets in but not “Maybelline” or “Hound Dog”?
