Happy Independence Day America!

Happy July 4th my fellow Americans. Enjoy your day off if you get one - don't party too hard and take a cab tonight if you drink too much while out with friends. A lot of towns are having free concerts tonight. Daughtry was performing not too far from me last night but the weather was sketchy so I skipped. Let me know in the comments if you are seeing anyone fun this long weekend!

I saw ELO last night (July 3rd), simply amazing! Note for note, pretty much the same as the records. Jeff Lynne had to have a lot of musicians to pull it off but he did it. My wife and I went, had to pay $100 each for tickets but it was worth every cent. I'm trying to see all of the older bands I've never seen before they call it quits and I'm glad to have gotten this one. ELO haven't been to Nashville since the late 70's and probably won't be back. Check them out if you can but the tour is quickly coming to a close. Happy 4th....Cheers!

That’s awesome, man. I’d love to see them before it’s too late!

BK, anybody on your "to do" list of classic bands that you have your radar on before they wrap it up forever ?

STONES

I saw the Stones for the first time about 5-6 yrs ago on the Zip Code tour. I was very skeptical about how they would sound at their age but was floored with how good the show was. Jagger sounded great and the rest of the band and side musicians played at a high level as well. Would certainly see them again.

This may be our last chance, JCD!

I saw ‘em two nights in a row, 10th row at RFK Stadium on their Voodoo Lounge Tour in 1994. They were incredible and I only wish I had seen them in ‘78 off “Some Girls” or in ‘81 off “Tattoo You” during what is debatably the renaissance of their career.

Word is this current tour could be their last due to their ages and ongoing health issues, so if there’s ever a chance to see them it seems like that time is now.

Saw ELO in San Jose, JCD. A wonderful show all around. One of those shows where I felt, at the end, that I didn't pay enough. Seriously.

Saw Priest the following night in San Fran. A much better showing than the previous go around at Shoreline (with Purple). And a new set list with some interesting choices.

Seeing Steve Miller in Tahoe next month. Always a good time.

Happy belated 4th everyone. Still reading. But still keeping things simple. Only interested in reading, occasionally writing, and then posting simple notes. It works for everyone, methinks.

"Him", I saw Steve Miller a few years ago and it was very cool and go to see Priest about every time they come through Nashville.... this last tour was their best showing in years, Take These Chains is one of my favorite songs by them. "Metalboy", I would have loved to have seen the Stones on the Tattoo You tour as this was my first interest in them. It was the dawn of MTV and the videos for Tattoo You were some of the first played on the channel. To this day I don't know why I didn't see the Voodoo Lounge tour, likely because I was broke at the time but I've bought all these vault dvds they've put out the last few years.

It has almost come to this, we will soon be left with tribute bands and maybe hologram tours in the near future so go see them while we still can. Scanning through my local city events paper I couldn't help but recognize the amount of tribute bands already out there. How many bands that we go see are already reduced to one, maybe two original members?

Good question! My top classic bands that are still on my bucket list are the following:

Eagles
Whitesnake
ELO

There are some newer bands on it but i have plenty of time to see those. As for the 3 bands i mentioned, though, i'd love to make it to any of those. I used to think the Eagles were too slowed down for me but as i've gotten older, ive begun to appreciate their music a little more. I know that none of the three bands are the classic or even original lineup but im not a concert nazi like that, anymore. After seeing Skynyrd in November, i will no longer not go see a band because so and so isnt in it. They blew my mind when i saw them, which sucks, because i blew so many chances to see them over the last 25 years or so. Im not gonna make that mistake anymore, ever again! Ive been to over 100 shows and ive seen some legends during that time, but if i ever get another chance to see any of these 3 legendary acts, i wont pass it up.

Sorry for the duplicate post but you can absolutely add the Stones to my list as well. I was never a huge fan but its the Rolling Stones!!!

BK, I like the Eagles but never had much desire to see them, I've seen Joe Walsh twice though. Saw Whitesnake in '87 opening for Motley and again on the Slip of the Tongue tour, then with Foreigner recently. Hope you get to the ones you want to see. I'll bet you've seen some I wish I had gotten to see.

Wow, you got to see Coverdale & the boys in their early days, in their prime... & beyond! 😳

BK, Yeah '87 was their big year. I would have loved to seen them on the Slide It In tour w/ Sykes and Cozy Powell and even before that with their bluesy line-up. I missed some great bands that were popular before I started going to shows around '81-82. My brother who is 6 yrs older than me saw everybody including the whole southern rock era. He once saw Eddie Money, Thin Lizzy and Journey on the same bill, that's before Journey got really poppy with Cain. He still says Thin Lizzy was the top live band he ever saw.

Wow, really. I can see that though, TL rocked back in the day! 🤘🏼

Consider this, All bands were pretty much on the same page visually with no huge stage productions minus maybe Pink Floyd and KISS. Nothing to distract from the music being played so if a band sounded bad there was nothing to fall back on, they just sucked. Aerosmith was the worst band he saw, this was at the pinnacle of their love affair with drugs ('77-78), people were throwing shit at them. Bands like Thin Lizzy, Journey, Kansas, etc. were so good they need no production...just instruments, amps, lights. With that said I can see where Thin Lizzy was his favorite live band.

Yeah, i can see that JCD. To this day, after over 100 shows, Aerosmith is by far the worst concert ive ever been to. And this is coming from an old school Aerosmith fan. Too many ballads, not enough energy, not a great sound, just not a good show at all. So i can understand why he'd say that. This has been going on for nearly 20 years now. It's truly past time for them to hang it up! I'm just glad my boys from the Crue knew it was their time to walk off into the sunset as a band. \m/
