Award Show Flashback: 1997

The MTV Video Music Awards are tomorrow night. I have no idea why this still exists considering MTV rarely plays music videos, but whatever. In a nicely timed coincidence, Metalboy sent me some texts last night asking if I remembered a certain Aerosmith performance from an awards show long ago. I did vaguely remember the performance but I could not remember which award show.

Metalboy sleuthed it out and found Aerosmith's 1997 Billboard Music Awards performance. It happened in Las Vegas, they did the song "Pink" and synchronized swimming was involved. At the end, Steven Tyler jumps in the water, too.

You just don't see performances like the one below anymore. It was a fun blast from the past to watch again. I know I watched it live back in 1997. I was a junior in high school and obsessed with Aerosmith. The show was on December 8, which was a Monday night. I'm sure I made my parents sit through the show.

This show should NOT be happening in NY during this Pandemic. Entertainers flying in from other states and NOT Quarantining. No 911 tribute but this is OK ? Hypocrisy at its finest!

The 9-11 tribute in light is happening after all.

The awards show is apparently happening with no audience in secret locations around NYC so crowds don't gather. At least that is what I read online because I wondered about the safety of this too. - Allyson

I hope you are correct!

Curmudgeon-mode: what would Attic-era 'Smith think of this?!?!

To me, this isn't Aerosmith. I know it sold well and garnered the boys a new lease on life. To me, this is (to put it kindly) a Reverse-Corabi (perhaps that should be on Urban Dictionary).

If I want sync-swimming, I will stick with Busby Berkeley. If I want Aerosmith looking for a trend, I will stick with them and Run DMC.
