Pineda sounds just fine. And he seems gracious and humble otherwise. That counts.
The fact that Cain and Schon can get along in a business setting should be an applauded thing. Those two guys have nothing in common . . . save making money. And there is the rub. Notice how forward those darn keyboards are? Notice, not that this is new, that Schon's guitars are just begging to be heard because they are oh so cool? At some point this will just be two old codgers playing the keyboard and the guitar. At that point, they will finally have what they really want. Total control. And, who knows? I bet people would go see that show. And, at least it would be a bit more honest.
Say what you will about the recent shenanigans that led to the ouster of Smith and Valory. But Cain and Schon deserve each other (and I don't mean that in a good way). Hopefully, Pineda will eventually move on to something that really motivates him and shows his talents. It won't pay the same. But he might be able to finally wash off the oil stain from being associated with a band that is now, for all intents and purposes, a cash machine for two souls who sold the same to Dr. Faustus.
Sidebar: and I say all of this as a fan of the band, and also as a person who found the recent Journey Through Time to be exceptional.
