Happy National Cherry Pie Day!

Apparently January 20 is National Cherry Pie Day in America. I'm not a big pie person myself, but I do enjoy a slice of cherry from time to time.

Obviously, this celebration calls for Warrant. I do think the video for "Cherry Pie" has aged poorly, but the song is a classic nonetheless.

The video is of its time, like something trapped in amber. An obvious joke with some 'times two' entendres that are, both lyrically and visually, a bit on the nose. Then again, they were when the video and song came out. Sad thing is, this song haunted Jani Lane for the rest of his days. And I admit I, too, got caught up in that sort of thing. It took me years to recognize just how keen a lyricist/writer he was.

Perhaps we should instead listen to Neil's "Cherry, Cherry" or The Runaways' "Cherry Bomb"? Or, skipping any semblance of provocation, simply sip a nice glass of Hot Cherie (apologies for that one, folks!).

Thank goodness today is a day to celebrate truly inspired things, like sticky buns, boiled peanuts, and all things grain-free. Try to write a snappy metal song about any of those . . . well, the first might actually work!

Always loved the aesthetics of the video though. The red instruments with all the chrome blacked out was sooo pop. I wanted that drum kit.
