Holy Cow - Look At The Crowd For Motley Crue!

The World Tour with Motley Crue and Def Leppard stopped in Mexico City over the weekend. Motley singer Vince Neil posted some photos of the show and the crowd. I actually did a double-take when I saw the crowd photos. The amount of people that attended the show was massive.

The bands played at Foro Sol Stadium which holds 65,000 people. I do not know if the show was sold out or not, but there is no doubt that tens of thousands of folks attended.

Sunday Spins: 'Miami Vice' Edition

I just love flipping through bins of old records at antique shops, thrift stores and proper music shops. You never know what you are going to find. A few weeks ago I stumbled upon a pristine copy of the Miami Vice soundtrack on vinyl. Obviously, it was coming home with me. Officially the title is Miami Vice - Music From The Television Series. I paid $10 for my copy that looks showroom new!

The Miami Vice soundtrack was released by MCA in 1985. The album was also released in the UK, Germany and other parts of Europe, Australia, Canada, Peru and Mexico. As far as I know, the LP has never been re-released. The record is flat and clean - the sound is pristine and has incredible mastering. A CD version was re-released in some countries in 2006 but the sound is apparently not great. I have never heard this album on CD, so I can't speak to that.

The soundtrack features the theme song (naturally) plus big hits from the likes of Glenn Frey and Phil Collins. The theme of the show was written by Jan Hammer. Dude made magic when he created the opening theme for Miami Vice. The song remains one of the best television tunes ever.

Glenn Frey's "You Belong to the City" and Phil Collins "In The Air Tonight" are what made me really want the album. I happen to love those tracks and I don't have them on vinyl (yet).

A totally fun trip back to the mid-80s!

Riley's L.A. Guns Release 'Rewind' -- New Track

Riley's L.A. Guns will release a new album called The Dark Horse later this year. One of the songs on that upcoming album is "Rewind" and the band shared an audio version of it via YouTube. This is one of those songs that sounds fine for a modern rock track, because it is. This isn't the L.A. Guns of the past because this isn't that band, which makes Steve Riley's decision to fight for the use of the name even more confusing.

I like the guitars and the chorus on "Rewind" and I bet The Dark Horse will be a strong release. I just wonder if Riley and the rest of the band would have been better off going with a whole new name, image and started off clean.

2023 Record Store Day Album List Revealed

The list of albums coming up for Record Store Day on 2023 was just released. This year, RSD will be on April 22. The most exciting release on the list for me is Van Halen: LIVE, Right Here, Right Now.

It will be on four albums and cost $100. This is the first time Live, Right Here, Right Now will be on vinyl and there will only be 9,500 records pressed. The release will be on red translucent vinyl -- of course! This is the Sammy Hagar "Red Rocker" era of Van Halen, after all!

'Friends With Benefits'

Steel Panther released a video for their song "Friends with Benefits." It's on their upcoming album On The Prowl due later this month. The song is pretty much what you would expect from the title and the fact that it's Steel Panther. The video is a take on Shark Tank. The clip is ridiculous (of course) and offensive (obviously). I still laughed and you probably will too.

'Eye of the Tiger' Trends For The Wrong Reasons

So "Eye of the Tiger" was trending earlier today, presumably because Nikki Haley announced her run for President. So she used the song at a campaign rally, just like so many other politicians before her. So whatever. The song should be trending because it is flat awesome - and the album of the same name is too, from one track to the next.

I found a copy of Survivor's Eye of the Tiger on vinyl a couple weeks ago at a local antique store. The vinyl is in really great condition and it was like $12.

I feel like Eye of the Tiger has one of the best covers ever, especially if you love the Cincinnati Bengals like me! The cover looks like it could hang in Paycor stadium for goodness sakes. Plus, Eye of the Tiger is severely underrated as an album. Yes, the title single is amazing. I mean, it was used in Rocky for goodness sakes! So many of the songs on Eye of the Tiger are filled with great hooks. Yes there are synthesizers that some would say make the album dated, but these sort of make me love the songs even more. Songs like "Children of the Night" are classic to me.
