In Which ChatGPT Writes About Hair Metal

Happy Valentine's Day, my lovelies.

Like everyone else on earth, I've been curious about GhatGPT. I wondered what the AI tool would say about "hair metal." So I popped in this prompt: "Write me a blog post about a underrated hair metal band." ChatGPT scanned the Internet - including things I've probably written in the past - and spit out the result below.

There are some inaccuracies - obviously Britny Fox did not write "Hair of the Dog" -- that was Nazareth. That means, then, that Guns n' Roses didn't cover Britny Fox - they covered Nazareth when they performed the song live and recorded it for The Spaghetti Incident. Plus, ChatGPT doesn't explain the many lineup changes for Britny Fox over the years, either. Still a fun experiment.

"Hair metal was one of the defining genres of the 1980s, with its catchy riffs, flamboyant fashion, and over-the-top performances. While bands like Poison, Bon Jovi, and Guns N' Roses remain popular to this day, there are a number of underrated hair metal bands that never quite achieved the same level of success. In this post, we'll take a look at one such band: Britny Fox.

Britny Fox formed in Philadelphia in 1985, and released their self-titled debut album in 1988. The album was a modest success, peaking at #109 on the Billboard 200, but it was their follow-up, 1989's "Boys in Heat," that really put them on the map. The album reached #63 on the Billboard 200, and featured the hit single "Long Way to Love," which remains a fan favorite to this day.

Despite their success, Britny Fox never achieved the same level of fame as some of their peers. Part of the reason for this may be that they were often overshadowed by bands like Poison and Bon Jovi, who had similar sounds and styles. But Britny Fox had a distinctive sound of their own, with a bluesy edge that set them apart from many of their hair metal contemporaries.

One of the standout tracks on "Boys in Heat" is "Hair of the Dog," which features a killer guitar riff and a catchy chorus. The song was covered by Guns N' Roses during their Use Your Illusion tour, which helped to bring Britny Fox to a wider audience. Other highlights of the album include "Dream On," a power ballad that showcases singer "Dizzy" Dean Davidson's impressive vocal range, and "Shot from My Gun," a fast-paced rocker with a memorable chorus.

Britny Fox went on to release several more albums, but their fortunes waned as the 1990s wore on and hair metal fell out of fashion. They disbanded in 1992, but reunited in 2000 for a tour that saw them playing to packed houses across the United States. Since then, they've continued to tour and record, and have built up a dedicated fan base around the world.

In conclusion, Britny Fox may not be as well-known as some of their hair metal peers, but they deserve to be recognized as one of the underrated bands of the genre. With their bluesy edge and catchy tunes, they brought a distinctive sound to the world of 1980s rock, and their music still holds up today. If you're a fan of hair metal, or just appreciate good old-fashioned rock and roll, be sure to give Britny Fox a listen."

Marty Friedman Will Perform With Megadeth Again

This one surprised me today: Rolling Stone has an exclusive story about guitarist Marty Friedman performing with Megadeth again. Friedman hasn't been on stage with the band in over 20 years, so the performance will be special. The little reunion will happen later this month when Megadeth headlines Budokan in Tokyo, Japan.

You'll be able to watch via livestream. Details for that are below - tickets are required.

Super Sunday Spins - February 12, 2022

It is Super Bowl Sunday in America, which is basically like a holiday for most folks. For the pop fans, Rhianna will be the halftime entertainment. Who knows? Maybe she will bring a rock band out with her too.

I am amassing a rather nice vinyl collection. Seems to me it is time to do a vinyl review each week and I'll call it Sunday Spins. Today, a review of the Dirty Honey LP. I found it by happenstance while browsing bins at Omega Records in downtown Dayton, Ohio. The LP was released in 2021 and I paid $21. The deadwax tells me Dirty Honey used Vinyl Record Guru for their manufacturing.

The sound of the Dirty Honey LP is excellent. It feels much warmer and fuller than listening to the band through digital files, which is the only other way I have heard these songs. The track listing:

California Dreamin’
The Wire
Tied Up
Take My Hand
Gypsy
No Warning
Another Last Time
The Morning

It's hard to pick a favorite here but I do love "California Dreamin'" - the whole song is just a vibe. Dirty Honey is one of those bands that is meant to be heard via vinyl, I swear. Yes, they are a modern act but they are so throwback, they would fit right into the 70s rock scene. This record is short, so it's a fun listen that won't eat up a lot of time if you like to play a record all the way through (which I prefer, but that's not everyone's bag).

Some people online have complained at the pressing quality of the Dirty Honey LP, but my copy is great. There are bad batches of records to be sure, but I guess I am one of the lucky ones, because I have no issues. If you're into Dirty Honey, have a record player and a spare $20, give it a chance.

Oh and back to the Super Bowl: I have no dog in the fight since my Bengals aren't in it, but I'll be watching with interest. I'm always a little bummed when this day rolls around because it means an end to one of my hobbies for a few months (tracking my team, players, stats, whatever) but it's also a sign that warmer weather is coming, so yeah for that!

Here's the official video of Dirty Honey's "Another Last Time" (Live at the Wiltern) - a great track from their self-titled LP.

Attack Attack! Releases New Music - Welcome To The 'Dark Waves' Era

New singles Saturday! My beloved Metalcore band Attack Attack! just released two new songs - one is called "Dark Waves" and the other is "Paralyzed (Until We Meet Again)." They both go hard. I might give the edge to "Paralyzed" right now, but I haven't listened to the new tracks enough to make a clear decision. I like them both and they are going straight to my running playlist!

Is 'Bang Bang' One Of The Best Glam Tunes Ever?

I was feeling kind of blue this morning for... reasons.

I decided to go around the corner and get a latte to break up my workday. Clicking around the satellite radio channels, I went ahead and stopped on Hair Nation because why not? Recently I've been listening to mostly Octane and NFL Network in the car. So I'm making my short drive, Danger Danger's brilliant "Bang Bang" comes on and what do I notice? I realize that I'm smiling! And then I'm tapping my finger and singing along and thinking about how happy hearing "Bang Bang" always makes me. I mean, the message of the song isn't so great because the dude loses his girl and she's a cheater but man, the riffs and choruses sure are infectious!

I've had the self-titled Danger Danger debut on my Discogs vinyl "want" list for awhile now. It's just such an expensive record for an original pressing. Maybe I will breakdown and buy the remaster instead of shucking out around $100 for a mint copy of the original run. Either way, the money would probably be well spent since "Bang Bang" has never once failed to make me happy. For me, it's one of the best Glam songs ever, from one of the most underrated bands of the genre.

Glam Slam 2023 Festival Lineup Announced - And It Is Awesome

Ok now here's a festival I would love to attend! The Glam Slam Festival will take place September 8, 9 and 10 in Vorselaar, Belgium. Check out this lineup! It includes Crashdiet, Mike Tramp's White Lion, The Cruel Intentions, Crazy Lixx and so many more. I'm so jealous of the folks that get to go to this one. It's what I always hoped M3 Rock Festival would evolve into... but probably not enough known bands for an American audience.

Early bird tickets are on sale now - click through the post below for more details.

'Sea Hear Now' Festival Lineup Announced

The Sea Hear Now Festival will take place September 16-17 in Asbury Park, New Jersey. It's a celebration of music and surf culture at the end of summer.

I have to admit the lineup is a little odd in my opinion. The headliners are The Killers and Foo Fighters. Fine. But how is Sheryl Crow an opener for The Killers... not to mention Greta Van Fleet? I'm stunned she's that far down on the bill. Living Colour and The Breeders are also in the mix, as are The Beach Boys. Tickets go on sale tomorrow and two-day GA wristbands are $370 each. Of course VIP and crazy experience packages are available.

I'm just old so I have no idea what bands like Surfer Girl or Royal Blood sound like. Living Colour caught my eye, so I thought I'd share. I'm sure this is a fun weekend, especially since it all happens at the beach.
