News Of The Week Roundup: Week 2, 2021

We are at the halfway point of the first month of the year and already, America has had more big news than some countries have in a decade. The first week of the year we had the deadly Capitol insurrection. This past week, Donald Trump became the only president ever impeached twice. That impeachment was for his role in the insurrection.

The coming week ahead will be huge in America with the inauguration of Joe Biden and Kamala Harris. In the aftermath of the Capitol violence, Washington D.C. currently looks like a Green Zone with more than 20,000 National Guard troops standing watch. The COVID-19 pandemic meant the inauguration was always going to be smaller than normal. Now, because security is so tight, there will be few if any crowds. In fact, people are being asked to stay away and just watch the history unfold on television.

Some of the biggest stories out of the music world over the past week revolved around the D.C. violence. Jon Schaffer of Iced Earth attended the riot - no word on what will happen to him regarding legal action but a lot his fans are ticked off and so are his bandmates.

Scary and sobering new reporting and video on the siege from The New Yorker.

In more hopeful news, Sebastian Bach has announced a tour to celebrate the 30th anniversary of Slave To The Grind. The tour is set for the fall, pandemic willing of course.

In random personal finance news, here is a wild story about debt-free guru Dave Ramsey. Seems he runs his Ramsey Solutions empire with an iron fist, getting a little too personal into employee behavior outside of work and ignoring all COVID-19 protocols. I'm a big "no debt" proponent myself (okay, I have a mortgage) and I think Dave has really helped so many people... but this story is bonkers.

Finally, happy 99th birthday to our queen Betty White!

'Samantha's Gone' -- Corey Taylor, New Video

"Samantha's Gone" is the latest single and video from Corey Taylor's solo release CMFT. The catchy tune called for a cute video and the clip below delivers. Make sure you watch all the way to the end. And yes, Steel Panther is in the video too!

40 Years Of Motley Crue

Starting this weekend and all year long, Motley Crue will celebrate 40 years as a band. The anniversary celebration kicks off Sunday. Click through the link below to sign the band's anniversary card. On Sunday, the band promises more announcements and we will get an idea of what the "celebration" really entails.

We already know the band will tour this summer because The Stadium Tour was rescheduled from last year due to the pandemic. Perhaps more show announcements are coming? A new album? More hot sauce? Who knows - but watch this space!

Def Leppard Vault Is Now Open

I signed up for advance "entry" into the Def Leppard vault and I checked it out a little yesterday. The vault is open for everyone to enjoy now. The website does have a lot of interesting history and tidbits about the band. There is even a section about wardrobe and jackets the members have worn over the years.

The Leps used their quarantine time to go through all their personal artifacts to help create the online museum. I applaud the effort and think more legacy bands should do the same. The content is a gift to fans. What a fun walk down memory lane!

Playlist Of The Month - Volunteers Needed

So many of you mentioned wanting to read about playlists in this new year. That is great, so we will do a playlist of the month, by theme. I will need your help. I can build a playlist via Amazon Music but I will need someone to build the same playlist on Spotify and on Apple Music. I do not have either. I have the paid Amazon Music account and I do not want to buy another service.

I will put the playlists, segmented by month, on the left sidebar in a new category.

If you want to help and would be willing to commit to one playlist per month, please email me at allyson@bringbackglam.com and put "playlist" in the subject line.

The theme for January's playlist will be New Year, New Music. This means focusing on new tunes from bands we love and discovering new bands, too. After I get the volunteers lined up, I will announce the date of the release of the first playlist.
