Discuss: End of Great White 'Name' Dispute

Received this press release late yesterday. Quite frankly, I'm not surprised at the outcome... are you?

GREAT WHITE AND JACK RUSSELL REACH AGREEMENT OVER USE OF “GREAT WHITE” NAME HOLLYWOOD, CA (July 23, 2013) - Great White and co-founding member/original lead singer Jack Russell have announced that they have entered into an agreement settling their pending litigation over the “Great White” name.

In March, 2012, Russell sued his former band-mates Mark Kendall, Michael Lardie and Audie Desbrow over their continuing use of “Great White” after Russell had taken a leave of absence from the band for medical reasons. The band countersued, and the parties have been involved in contentious litigation for the last year. After three days of closed-door mediation before U.S. Magistrate Judge Carla Woehrle, the parties reached a comprehensive agreement. While many of the terms of the agreement will remain confidential, it can be revealed that, going forward, the current Great White band will continue to use the name "Great White"' and Russell will perform under the name "Jack Russell's Great White".

Jack Russell’s GREAT WHITE has hit the high seas to embark in a two month two moth voyage across the Nation until early Fall.

Multi-Platinum original singer of GREAT WHITE still brings it to the stage belting out all the original beloved songs that made the band take a place in rock history. Russell will be performing all their greatest hits from "Save All Your Love," "One Bitten Twice Shy," "Rock Me" and more!

Loudest Concert Crowd Ever?

Generally when the word concert comes up, you probably immediately think of a rock or metal band. And mostly every crowd is loud, especially when there are a lot of special effects like pyro continually going off to keep people interested and "wowed."

The other day Vanilla Ice did a surprise performance of "Ice Ice Baby" during The Package Tour which is New Kids on the Block, 98 Degrees and Boyz II Men. Holy crap what a loud crowd! The shrieking and screaming actually made me jump when I watched the video for the first time. Watching the clip sort of made me wonder if the crowd reaction was one of the loudest in history. I've been in a lot of loud crowds -- but I don't know if any of those experiences compare to the one below. I guess it has a lot to do with women and young girls shrieking or something. What is the loudest concert, crowd wise, you've ever attended?

Frankie Banali Will Cook For You as Part of Charity Auction Win

If you live in or around Los Angeles, you might be interested in a charity auction in support of Animal Advocates Alliance. You could win a dinner for you and your friends... cooked by Quiet Riot drummer Frankie Banali.

Here's the listing details:

His hard hitting, deep pocket, heavy rock drumming was a mainstay of the 80s LA rock scene, but Frankie Banali the person and the drummer goes much deeper than the grooves he plays with Quiet Riot, W.A.S.P. or any number of bands you may have heard him with on over 100 recordings. He's is a huge animal lover and is also "famous" for his cooking!

Frankie's father was Sicilian and his mother was from Spain. He was raised a connoisseur of food and has been cooking for as long as he can remember. He has recipes in several cookbooks and is currently working on his own cookbook of Sicilian and Spanish cooking. The winner of this package will have a home cooked meal, prepared in your home (Los Angeles area only) for up to six guests. He will also throw in some signed memorabilia and two tickets and backstage passes to a future Quiet Riot show!

Around 9 p.m. ET on Saturday night, the auction was sitting at $500. Happy bidding!

Museum Unveils Historic Les Paul Exhibit

My post on the Les Paul stamp received a lot of positive comments. Here's some information about a new Les Paul exhibit in Wisconsin. Check out some photos below!

Waukesha, Wis. June 5, 2013 – Les Paul’s vision for a true-to-life exhibit located in his hometown of Waukesha, Wis., will become a reality on Sunday, June 9. The Waukesha County Museum (WCM) is unveiling its first ever, permanent exhibit – Les Paul: The Wizard of Waukesha – revealing the personality, character and creativity of the legendary musician.

Les Paul: The Wizard of Waukesha goes beyond traditional exhibits by connecting guests of all ages with his life story, including one of the biggest influences on his career – his hometown,” said Kirsten Lee Villegas, president and CEO, Waukesha County Museum. “It’s like nothing else ever created to honor him because it focuses on who Les was, and how he thought, inspiring people to pursue their dreams.”

Erol ReyalThe 2,000-square-foot exhibit takes guests on an experiential journey through Les Paul’s life, featuring eight chapters presented in the inventor’s own words. A special section is dedicated to both his mother and his wife, Mary Ford, two women who profoundly influenced him. Interactive elements are woven throughout, including a Dream Wall, sponsored by American Family Insurance, that encourages guests to share their dreams with the world, as Les Paul did.

One-of-a-kind artifacts and memorabilia, including rare guitars, Les Paul’s personal belongings and original inventions are also on display. Several valuable artifacts on loan from The Les Paul Foundation will also be in the Treasures Gallery section of the exhibit. All of these artifacts make The Wizard of Waukesha the most comprehensive exhibit of Les Paul’s life in the country.

The inspirational and authentic nature of the exhibit resulted in tremendous support from across the state of Wisconsin (in addition to those listed above), including Presenting Sponsor, Anthony and Andrea Bryant. Visionary level sponsors include Briggs & Stratton Corporation Foundation, Inc., The Les Paul Foundation, and Waukesha Gibson Guitar Town.

Innovators level sponsors include GMR Marketing, Jim Lindenberg & Family, the David & Julia Uihlein Foundation, Wisconsin Economic Development Corporation, ProHealth Care, Town Bank, Hal Leonard, and the Wisconsin Department of Tourism. Other companies and individuals are represented at many other levels.

“At one point the Smithsonian in Washington, D.C., attempted to work with Les Paul to create an exhibit, but Les always wanted his legacy to be preserved and his story told in Waukesha,” said Villegas. “The extraordinary feedback and support from our sponsors helped make that dream a reality.”

Les Paul: The Wizard of Waukesha exhibit opens to the public, Sun., June 9 from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. at the Waukesha County Museum. In addition to the exhibit, families can participate in activities, including an instrument petting zoo, sponsored by the White House of Music, a sound experiment lab, and the opportunity to sign Les Paul’s 98th birthday card. Food and beverages will be available for purchase, and the museum store will have many original Les Paul items for sale.

Admission is $7 for adults, $6 for seniors (62 years and older), $5 for college students with ID and teens ages 13 to 17 years, $4 for children ages six to 12 years, and free for children ages five and under. Admission is free for WCM members.
