News Of The Week Roundup: Week 29, 2021

A weekly roundup of news stories that caught my eye this past week. The Olympics kicked off with no fans which is pretty sad and provides an overall weird vibe. I've watched a few competitions so far, but I am most interested in female gymnastics and the marathon. Now, the news:

Under the banner "You reap what you sow," a.k.a., don't try to overthrow the U.S. government:

The NFL is cracking down on players who are not yet vaccinated against COVID-19. As cases continue to rise because of the Delta variant, the league is fed up and not messing around. It's a mandate without effectively instituting a mandate. A smart legal maneuver.

If you get COVID and have a cat, don't touch the animal while sick. The felines can get the respiratory disease too and no one wants a sick kitty.

Speaking of Olympics and the NFL, here's some information on weight lifting which might be helpful if you are trying to drop a few pounds.

A thousand-year rainfall event in China caused massive flooding. Waters rushed into streets and homes and subway cars. The videos out of the subway are things nightmares are made of - truly horrifying.

And I leave you with this:

'Let There Be Rock'

Here's a great, classic clip of AC/DC performing "Let There Be Rock" way back in 1978. Sent to me by Crued! He asked me "How much would you pay to be in the front at this show?" Can you imagine seeing this live? Amazing.

Still In My Top 5 Of All Time

Def Leppard's Hysteria will always be in my top 5 albums of all time. In fact, it's probably my second favorite album, following Aerosmith Rocks. On this date back in 1988, Hysteria reached the top position on the Billboard chart. It stayed there for six weeks, but not consecutively. That is a huge accomplishment and testament to the popularity of the band and their place in cultural music history.

The Rolling Stones Announce Tour Dates

More big tour news! The Rolling Stones have rescheduled their tour that was scrapped because of COVID-19. A few dates were dropped and some new ones added. Of course they are stadium dates, so massive crowds and crappy sound and views. I've always wanted to see the Stones live but there are no dates near me and the tickets are expensive (of course) so I'll probably be sitting this one out.

Also, this is just freaking cool:

Fall Tour Announcement: Sebastian Bach!

Sebastian Bach will celebrate the 30th anniversary of Slave To The Grind with a tour kicking off in late September. Bach and his band will play the album in its entirety, which is pretty cool. You can buy tickets to the tour on Bach's website. The tour wraps in December. Kaleido will provide support.

Bach has been a very outspoken supporter of vaccination to end the pandemic. He has been itching to perform live for months and months. Now that he has a tour on the books again, he is probably worried about the Delta variant surge. Honestly, it is worrisome and definitely setting our progress behind. I hope it doesn't stop live shows again.

Iron Maiden Announce 'Senjutsu'

This is not a drill: Iron Maiden will release a new album called Senjutsu on September 3. There's a new Eddie, too (see below).
