Papa Roach and Jet Tour Begins Tomorrow

I'm so glad it's the weekend. It's been a very trying week and I'm pooped. Of course, I won't get much rest today as I have a family wedding. I quite enjoy weddings but this one involves a long car ride, so that always adds to the exhaustion factor. Still, I'm sure it will be a fun day.

Earlier this week I received a press release about Jet's new video. The release also mentioned that Jet and Papa Roach are about to team up together for tour. How cool is that? I love P. Roach and I think this will be the first time the guys in that band have gotten a headline slot on tour. The tour actually starts tomorrow night in Amarillo, Texas and winds around America, ending around Thanksgiving time. Check out the complete routing at the official Papa Roach Myspace page.

Here's the new Jet video for "Black Hearts (On Fire)" from the album Shaka Rock.

And here's my favorite Papa Roach song, "I Almost Told You That I Loved You"

New Shinedown Video - 'If You Only Knew'

Shinedown just released a new video for their song "If You Only Knew." The song is one of my favorite tracks off The Sound of Madness. The video isn't great, though. It's just sort of average - not that there's any point for bands to spend a load of cash on videos these days. MTV never plays them anyway. Watch for yourself.

Bon Jovi Announces Tour Dates!

Bon Jovi just announced their 2010-2011 tour dates, but Ohio isn't on the list. I'm sure more states and far flung locales will be added, so just keep checking the band's official website. For now, here's the press release about the tour:

East Rutherford, NJ – October 22, 2009 – With New Jersey’s New Meadowlands Stadium as their backdrop, GRAMMY Award-winning hometown heroes Bon Jovi performed at a concert and media event today that announced “The Circle World Tour.” The band is preparing to spend nearly two years spanning the globe, including the kickoff event of New Meadowlands Stadium, scheduled for May 26th and 27th, 2010.

The New Meadowlands concerts will go on sale beginning at 10am on Saturday, October 31st, while additional tour dates go on sale November 9th and 16th. Fans should continue to log on to www.bonjovi.com for the most up to date concert and ticket on-sale information.

Beginning with the band’s North American tour launch on February 19th, 2010 in Seattle, WA, Bon Jovi will spend much of the next two years on the road, performing 135 shows in 30 countries. Following in the footsteps of their hugely successful “Lost Highway Tour, Bon Jovi will draw fans around the world into The Circle, with a residency at London’s O2 Arena in June 2010 before returning to America in the fall for an additional nationwide leg, and further dates well into 2011.

"It is often said that the third time is a charm, and in the case of the Bon Jovi/AEG Live relationship, this axiom certainly holds,” said Randy Phillips, President and CEO of AEG Live. “AEG Live has been honored to serve as the band's worldwide tour promoters, from the 2005 'Have A Nice Day' tour to the highest grossing tour of 2008, 'Lost Highway,' to the upcoming 'The Circle World Tour' in 2010. Bon Jovi is one of the most prolific and exciting live rock bands in the world."

'Time for Miracles'

Adam Lambert is getting ready to release his debut effort next month. The CD will be called For Your Entertainment and is said to be "very 70s glam rock." We shall see - I've already pre-ordered my copy. In the mean time, Adam recorded a song for the 2012 soundtrack. "Time for Miracles" is a sappy ballad, quite standard for a big budget Hollywood release. Of course Adam's voice is amazing on the track - and he looks great in the video below. I'm holding out for the rock, though. Adam was recently quoted as saying he'd "bring back glam." Considering I own the trademark on that phrase, I was pretty excited.

Watch the "Time for Miracles" video below.

Top 5 Aerosmith Videos

Footage just popped up on YouTube of Aerosmith performing living in Hawaii a couple days ago. I'm sure many of you are aware the band had to perform the show as a result of a lengthy lawsuit. I obviously wasn't at the show so I can't say if it was good or not, but the clip below isn't that impressive. It's clear there's some tension in the band right now - watch how Steven Tyler and Joe Perry really (don't) interact.

Of course, Joe's been on a publicity tour for his new CD and he isn't wasting time, talking about the band needing a break and insinuating that Steven hasn't been very grateful of his fans. Any longtime Aero fan knows about the volatile and rare relationship between Perry and Tyler: they need time apart. I'm hoping a nice vacation will give the entire band the ability to recharge to their batteries and come back stronger than ever.

In the mean time, let's count down the 5 best Aerosmith videos of all time...chosen by me of course!

Number 5 - "Dream On"

Aerosmith

Michigan Man | MySpace Video

Number 4 - "Amazing"

Number 3 - "Walk this Way (with Run DMC)"

Number 2 - "Cryin'"

Number 1 - "Love in an Elevator"

So, what do you think of my list? Which videos would you change? What order would you choose?

'Why AC/DC Matters' by Anthony Bozza - The Bring Back Glam! Review

Anthony Bozza, the New York Times bestselling author is back with a new book chronicling the importance of AC/DC. Aptly titled Why AC/DC Matters (Harper Collins), Bozza takes a rhetorical view of some of the best-known AC/DC tunes. Dissecting both the lyrics and music behind the entire package, Bozza explains why even the simplest chord structure can be considered both complex and groundbreaking.

Throughout the text, Bozza consults with experts from the renowned Berklee College of Music. Through these guitar and voice teachers, readers learn just how important AC/DC’s electric mix of genius and basic songwriting work together to create true rock anthems. Anyone that knows just a little about guitar realizes “Back in Black” isn’t hard to play. Hard to write and conceptualize is something completely different, and Bozza makes this distinction.

In addition to the expert opinions, there are interviews from music contemporaries Slash and Tommy Lee. Remember, Bozza helped both Tommy Lee and Slash write their biographies, so this connection makes sense.

Speaking of biographies, Why AC/DC Matters isn’t one of them. There are a few biographical elements sprinkled throughout the book, but Bozza isn’t about to repeat well known stories. The purpose of Why AC/DC Matters is to  make rock fans (and perhaps non-AC/DC lovers) appreciate a band often ignored by the most important critics in the rock world. Best of all, Bozza has an approachable writing style: he isn’t stuffy and he’s succinct. These skills were obviously honed during his many years at Rolling Stone.

Why AC/DC Matters is a quick read. As you flip pages, you’ll likely smile as you remember the first time you heard songs like “Hell’s Bells” and “Thunderstruck.”

Why AC/DC Matters sells at list for $16.66.

Bring Back Glam! received a free copy of this book for review purposes.
