David Lee Roth is back with one of his classic Van Halen re-recordings. This time it's "Atomic Punk." I think he sounds good here and I support these new recordings of classic hits. Plus, the download is free at the link in the post below.
"Unchained" is definitely one of my favorite Van Halen tracks. It's a classic! The song is on the 1981 release Fair Warning and it just might be one of the best rock songs ever recorded. Well, move over original because David Lee Roth has re-recorded the song... because he can. The redo was recorded back in May 2022.
.
And a look back in time... "Unchained" live in 1981!
David Lee Roth continues to re-record old Van Halen hits for fans. The most recent song on his remake list is "Everybody Wants Some." While some folks think these remakes are unnecessary - I enjoy them.
Another Sunday, another new David Lee Roth classic Van Halen cover. The new version of "Dance The Night Away" is our Sunday's Best for this week.
Like the other classic songs Roth recently released, "Dance The Night Away" was recorded back in May. Honestly, I continue to be impressed by these new recordings. Roth is 67 years old and his voice is sounding good. Plus, these are a gift to his fans. I dig it.
Also, this is breaking: Rihanna will be the halftime performer for the Super Bowl in February. All the music played in stadiums across America is largely rock and metal... but the halftime show is usually pop. Consider this your free opening to talk "sportsball" should you like. The Bengals are on fire today - about time!
Happy Labor Day weekend, fellow Americans! It's the unofficial end of summer - but I'll be worshiping the best season of the year until it ends in about three weeks. I loathe winter and hate the time change. Fall is usually mostly tolerable around my parts until Thanksgiving... then it's all downhill.
For our Sunday's Best this week, let's talk about David Lee Roth and his new version of "Panama." I'm not exactly sure why DLR felt like re-recording such a classic except for no other reason than he just wanted to and so he did. I don't know if this is considered a cover or not, but I'll call it that for lack of better word. So the "cover" is pretty good. It's hard to listen when you know how the original sounds. "Panama" is such an iconic track, but good for Roth for jumping in the studio and releasing something for the fans.
Another surprise track release from David Lee Roth! He just released "Nothing Could Have Stopped Us Back Then Anyway" which is a song about the beginnings of Van Halen. The full track is below.
All these tracks have been sitting around for some time and it does make me wonder why we are getting so many of them now and in such an odd fashion.
Roth literally "announced" the song by dropping a clip of the tune on his social platforms. The music and lyrics are a love letter to those early rock n' roll days for the band, with Diamond Dave looking back and recalling tears and laughter, pranks, heartache and happy meals. This one hits me in all the feels.
There's new David Lee Roth music to celebrate and that's our Sunday's Best for this week! The new track is called "Pointing At The Moon" and the video features artwork from Roth, too. This track is a little different from what Roth usually releases. It's good to hear from him again - but it isn't clear if this is for an upcoming album or just a one-off.
