Today's Sunday's Best is a "new" song from Queen!
I was on vacation all last week so I missed this exciting news. The remaining members of Queen rediscovered the lost song "Face It Alone" while working on The Miracle Collector’s Edition. Brian May and Roger Taylor mentioned the lost track a few months ago... and then nothing happened. I forgot about it and then I saw the New York Times roundup of new songs and "Face It Alone" was included!
Jon Pareles of the New York Times writes:
"Freddie Mercury packed drama into every syllable when he sang 'Face It Alone,' a track Queen rediscovered in 1988 session archives while preparing a much-expanded reissue of its 1989 album, The Miracle, and has now rebuilt. It’s a dirge about inevitable, existential loneliness, set to slow, bare-bones arpeggios and funereal drum thuds, and Mercury’s voice expands it to arena scale as he moves between confidential croon and balcony-rattling rasp."
The band also performed a big show at the O2 Arena in London last night. Ah to have been there! Watching the videos on YouTube is a real treat.
Whew! What a surreal evening! It was an absolute honor to join my superiors @DrBrianMay and @OfficialRMT onstage in front of Buckingham Palace for the Queen Elizabeth’s Platinum Jubilee!….

Adam Lambert channeling Freddie Mercury in front of Buckingham Palace while Brian May and his guitar ascend to the top of the stage in blast of theatrical fog? It must be the Queen's #PlatinumPartyatthePalace!

Here's some video of Erik Gronwall singing live back in 2009 on Swedish Idol.
Erik auditioned for Swedish Idol with Skid Row's "18 and Life." It should be recalled that (also in 2009) Adam Lambert auditioned for American Idol with Queen's "Bohemian Rhapsody." Now he fronts Queen. Erik fronts Skid Row. Life is amazing sometimes.
Thanks to Crued for sending me this fun clip! I am a Peanuts fan (but who isn't?!) and this is so cute: the gang is singing Queen's "Bohemian Rhapsody."
Of course the clip is made by a fan - and isn't really licensed by Charlie Brown, Peanuts or Charles Schulz. It is just good fun.
A lineup of artists and the songs they will performing is available on the ABC website. Adam Lambert is singing my very favorite Queen song, "Show Must Go On."
