Quiet Riot Is Playing M3

We know M3 Rock Festival is slated for May 11 and 12 in Columbia, Maryland. Now we know the first confirmed band, too. Frankie Banali announced that Quiet Riot will play the festival. I'm sure this will get the tongues wagging. Whenever modern-day Quiet Riot comes up in conversation there's always a heated debate as to whether the band should still be performing without Kevin Dubrow.
Incidentally, I saw Kevin and the rest of Quiet Riot at the first Rocklahoma. That was the only time I ever saw the band. I have an open mind - I'll give Frankie's version of the band a chance at M3. Will you?

But, if there was ever a legit reason for a band to continue on with a new singer, the circumstances of Kevin's departure are certainly more than acceptable (RIP).
There are at least a couple of other reasons why it's okay for QR to soldier on: 1) DuBrow's own Mother blessed off Banali's latest version, 2) Even though there was none better, DuBrow wasn't the
original singer of QR.
Hopefully it's a sign of even bigger acts to be announced!
I'm there this year, for sure! Can't wait!
Who was the original singer for QR? I know Frankie wasn't the original drummer, but wasn't aware there was another vocalist prior to Dubrow.
Yes, Frankie said Kevin's Mom gave her blessing to go out as Quiet Riot and continue keeping her son's name alive.
This isn't like when Kevin left and Shortino came in, Huff replaced a fallen rocker. So the "scab" tag isn't fair like Warrant, LAG w/Tracii and Dilana, etc.
Huff kicks ass vocally. I've seen QR twice with him and he's good a duplicating Kevin's vocals. I've seen QR before "Metal Health" was released and plenty of times after, until the first break up. I never saw them with Shortino to make a call there. The "reunions" were vocally and musically, far ahead of the 82-87 shows I'd seen. Kevin really grew as a vocalist over the years. His bluesy stuff was crazy good.
I brought them into Pittsburgh for a show over Labor Day in 2006 and their soundcheck was one of THE most amazing things I've ever seen. They kicked out Faces, Small Faces, Rod Stewart, Deep Purple and QR hits, alone in soundcheck alone.
Now the now, the people that say they suck now haven't really seen them live. The get bagged on from Huff to Grossi, but the band is tight.
This M3 show could put the naysayers in there place (I'm hoping).
But I looked up a lot of stuff this morning and you are right, there was no mention of it.
Regardless, I cried when I heard he died. I saw 'em twice. Once, right off "Metal Health" and another off the first reunion. Both occurred at the same venue named The Seagull Inn when I first saw them, later named Network the final time I saw 'em.
Maybe you heard of it. It was in Pasadena, Maryland, a REAL Rock'n'Roll town about 20 minutes outside of Baltimore.
I look forward to seeing them at M3 this year and I wonder who will headline. Think Quiet Riot is a good start and helps define the kinds of acts they are getting to headline.
I hope M3 can scale the heights they achieved when they had Scorpions and Cinderella on the same bill a couple years back.
I would still attend M3 just to see KIX, and whatever other bands are playing that year.
In fact, Carlos is doing a re-union show with his old 70's band "SNOW" at the Key Club in Hollywood on December 10th. For those that don't know, The riff you know as "Bang Your Head/Metal Health" was originally a Snow song called "No More Booze". They play on playing all the old Snow songs... should be a blast ! and, they're playing w/ a re-united Salty Dog. http://www.keyclub.com/event/73341/
At least Cavazo should rejoin, if not Rudy, as no one plays it better than he.

Maybe on a day when Allyson is short for content, she can devote a post to this band that was more important than most people ever knew. Carlos went on to Quiet Riot & Ratt, his brother Tony went on to play bass for Hurricane, & drummer Stephen Quadros went on to be a TV star.
