KIX to Open for Whitesnake

The title says it all: Kix will provide direct support for Whitesnake this summer at three Oklahoma dates.

Here are the shows:

8/4 First Council Casino with Whitesnake, Newkirk, OK

8/5 Lucky Star Casino with Whitesnake, Concho, OK

8/6 Choctaw Casino with Whitesnake, Durant, OK

This is exciting because it means KIX are continuing to book shows out of the Maryland area. Of course, I think KIX should headline. They were way better than Whitesnake at M3 this year and I suspect that to be the case in Oklahoma. There's just no competing with the energy that KIX bring to the stage and Whitesnake is using too much filler these days (yes, that means solos).

I wish I could go!

Gotta disagree with ya on this one?..I know your love for Kix is massive but Kix headlining over Whitesnake?..for real??..Whitesnake is a far superior band in songs and musicianship.Kix are a great live band,Ill give ya that one,,much more energy on stage but Whitesnake doesnt need to do the contant running and stage banter. Their music does the talking.I got my Snake tix for Hampton Beach NH..would I like less solos and more songs?.yes, but Ill take the Snake over Kix anyday.

That might be the funniest thing I've ever heard. Kid headline or Whitesnake. You must have been high writing that.

Whitesnake is a bigger band than kix and I would pay for kix headlining with ws opening. I would not pay for the reverse with ws current setlist. I maybe old bit I need more than one song off slide it in

@Smknotsmf
I saw Whitesnake at M3 and was a little bumbed out...they did not play slide it in and some other great stuff..They did, however, play some great tunes from the new album.
Kix is over the top. I live in MD and get to see them all the time, but after seeing them kick it at M3 as a headliner, I am totally convinced that they Rule the World. LOL.
They replaced Whitesnake last yr, when Coverdale had voice problems, and opened for Judas Priest. Amazing..by the way.
Now they are opening for WS in OK!! Wow. Plus...they are the BIG draw/headliner for the Monsters of Rock Cruise, set to sail in Feb.
The Dirty Boys are kickin it into high gear.

Remember, Whiteman is a freak of nature and can sing and move around well beyond his years.

But the same cannot be said for Coverdale who's a heckuva lot older than Whiteman and probably needs the breaks to allow his voice and his body to endure an entire summer tour.

Give the cat a break! He's still got a helluva voice so be glad for what you can get out of him before he packs it in.

p.s. wish he would trade up that one dude on guitar for someone even better. I like Aldrich but the other dude's just okay. Personally, I dig the solos, but if you're gonna do extended ones, you gotta really get musician magicians on them thar geetarz! Most chix aren't into the extended solo thing (unless it's Jimmy Page circa '73, hahaha!!!), I've noticed over the years. Must be a guy thing.

WS was good at M3. Kix was phenomenal. Anyone the greater DC / B-more area going to Faster P at Jaxx next Friday. I'm in DC working till 7pm and might make a run out to Springfield VA to catch them..

C'mon MB, that"other dude" is Reb Beach who belongs on the Mt. Rushmore of glam guitar. If I didn't know better I'd swear you were trolling
June 12, 2011 | Unregistered CommenterGlenn
Yeah, Reb Beach.

I thought that was him but was too lazy to Google him to confirm.

Just curious, who are the other Mount Rushmore Guitarists, in your humble opinion?

I've seen Whitesnake something like 2 days ago at Sweden Rock Festival, they started really cool blasting all over the stage, but it ended really quickly with mindless guitar solos and drum solo - what a snoozefest, ok I like guitar solos I thought that guitar solos at GN'R shows are amazing but they last for max 7minutes between different songs and James Bond, Pink Panther themes are great but what the fuck with 20+ minutes solos in one segment of useless guitar wankery. BORING I was happy that they played "Here I Go Again" two songs later so I could leave. Ozzy, Rob Zombie, Thin Lizzy , Accept, Buckcherry (band that were alson in the lineup) run circles around Whitesnake when quality of live show is concerned, unless someone likes mindless guitar playing - those guitarist are good but they are not Hendrix, Buckethead or Vai to keep things interesting for more than few minutes.

MB, You pose a very thought provoking question.Glam, being a very specific sub-genre of rock eliminates some of my favorite six string
gods. However I do believe a special reverence is deserving of George Lynch, Vito Bratta, Reb Beach and Warren DeMartini

I agree with all of your choices, Glenn, with Lynch at the top of The Glam Metal Scrap Heap, IMHO, but Beech at the bottom, as his style is less distinctive than any of those you mention.

I would, however, add one more to the pile...

Carlos Cavazo
June 13, 2011 | Unregistered CommenterMetalboy!
I should at least regard him highly enough to get his name right.

Reb Beach, my humble apologies.

p.s. Who are we forgetting?
June 13, 2011 | Unregistered CommenterMetalboy!
Eddie Van Halen. He started the whole flashy 80s style of guitar playing. He actually deserves to be mentioned in a list of influential guitarists period. Maybe Ed shouldn't be in a glam rock list but he is certainly glam's godfather when it comes to style.

I agree Warren DeMartini belongs there and probably Cavazo too. Gotta put Slash there too being from the biggest L.A. glam/sleaze band ever.

I'm with ya, One.

At first I was hesitant to add Van Halen or Slash cuz there's so much debate as to their Glamitude, but I'm all for it based on your rationale, particularly VH's "Godfather" status.

Thought of another "Glam Metal Guitar God", now that you mention L.A. Glam/Sleaze...

Drum roll, please...

Tracii Guns

He's is one of THE Greatest Rock Guitarists Of All Time, and certainly up there with the rest we have mentioned. AND he was on the scene before Slash (who's guitar playing style is a tad indistinctive, IMHO).
Tracii

And right underneath Eddie has got to be Randy Rhoads. If VH is our Hendrix than Rhoads is our Page.
June 14, 2011 | Unregistered CommenterMetalboy!
Wait a minute...

Huh-uh-lo-oh!!!

What about Michael Schenker?
June 14, 2011 | Unregistered CommenterMetalboy!
Metalboy: I'm not sure about Schenker as he was around way before the glam/sunset scene with the Scorps and UFO. He's a fabulous and highly underrated guitar player at any rate for sure!

I like your EVH/RR being Hendrix/Page analogy. I'll go with that.. :) If Eddie was responsible for how glam and even thrash/shred sounded (listen to "Loss of Control" off "Women and Children First"; there's a reason Dime loved them) than Randy was responsible for the whole classical music influence that some 80s era guitarists utilized.

Also..Hanoi Rocks. If EVH invented how glam/big hair/80s rock was supposed to sound, Hanoi invented how it looked; they took the Dolls' look and elevated it to eleven.. ;) That's why GnR will always be glam/sleaze to me; back in the day old Hollywood Rose were considered to be a Hanoi copy and not a necessarily good one. Agree that Tracii Guns is a better guitarist than given credit for.
