Metallica Return To Old Sound

Metallica recently performed their new song "The Lords of Summer" live for the first time. The track is thrashy metal -- basically old school Metallica. Already, it seems like the Internet is divided into two camps on this one. One faction absolutely loves the track and the return to the classic sound. The other faction hates every new Metallica song period. You can go ahead and put me in the first camp. So where are you?

I like the thrash aspect of the song but its too long and has too much going on. They haven't released a thrash cd in over 25 yrs so I'm not holding my breath on this one.

I like it. I like most of what they have done. Except Lulu. I like Lou Reed but that record was horrible. Much respect though.

I use to be a huge Metallica fan but for the last several years they lost their edge. I have personally not liked anything since the Black album. This song is good and I hope the whole album is as well.

Will, everyone knows they have riff tapes coming out of their ears, so it could be built from rejects. I do think it's tough for them to find an 'old' sound that they created by pushing barriers. Hard to sound the same by building walls around what they do. I don't mind it, it may grow on me. I thought Death Magnetic was the sound of them looking for something they don't have any more.
