Van Halen, Van Roth, Van Hagar Reunion?

The San Francisco Chronicle just interviewed Sammy Hagar about a possible reunion with Van Halen. Boy Howdy, Hagar's response was interesting!

“That whole Van Halen thing lurking in the woods out there, I feel there’s a sniper out there — any minute the bullet is going to come flying in that says “VH” on it, “You’re it!” We’ll see what happens. I don’t understand them. I haven’t understood them in a long time. I would only do it with Sam and Dave anyway. I’d rather Dave (David Lee Roth) go out and sing his own songs. I’ll sing my songs. That would be the ultimate show, I think. If we could do it that way, I would suck it up. It would be fun.”

The phrase "suck it up" and "will be fun" don't exactly match, but whatever. I actually could see David Lee Roth and Hagar on tour together in this capacity. Why not? It would be a financial bonanza.

Sammy and Dave have already toured together. Several years ago they did a tour called sans Halen where they each did sets with their own bands, doing a combo of Vh and their own solo tunes. If they can manage to pull this off, although it would be cool, I still wouldn't go as I've already seen VH with DLR in '84, Vh with Sammy in '86, DLR solo in '88, and Sammy solo in '84. I'd rather remember what they sounded like then than be reminded of what they sound like now.

I went to the Sans Halen tour in KC. It was a great show. I'd go see this tour, also. Unless there are security concerns.

I'd love to go see it, IF it ever happens. I did see Van Hagar back in the day, & they were awesome!

Saw 'me twice with Dave. In 1982 and 1984. Saw Sammy solo in about 1980. As much as I love all these guys,I gotta think ticket prices to this will make Bill Gates blush, were it to happen. And if it does happen, it SURE AS HELL better include Mikey Anthony for me to even think about plunking down hundreds of dollars to guys who are all literally worth hundreds of millions and are obviously doing a cash grab, ala G&R,The Eagles, and all the other bands that swore to high heaven they'd never consider getting back together, regardless of the sheckles that were offered. Like I said above, follow the money 💰

I think the impossible finally happened: both DLR and Hagar so question the motives and decisions of EVH that they are now closer to each other than ever. And they are both fans of Anthony as well.

That last tour they did? A Bonfire of the Vanities attempt to make cash and one up each other. Which they did, and didn't, do.

Do either of them really need EVH? Nope. Both have full lives with or without Alimony Alex and Erratic Ed. Would they do it for the fans? Sure. Probably. Does planting the seeds in this manner mean anything? Nope. Not unless A&E wish it to be so. But what do Malloy and Cherone think? That's what I want to know?

[Side-bar: read _Van Halen Rising_ if you want an interesting look at the interesting early dynamics that set the VH juggernaut in motion. It is a unique take and a good read.]

Maybe not the official name, but how they referred to it fitting the sets.
