Vince Neil Performs In Tulsa

It's time we have a talk about Vince Neil. He performed in Tulsa, Oklahoma recently. The show was comprised of all the Motley Crue hits he likes to perform. Now, there's nothing wrong with that and the guy is entitled to make a living and he looks like he's having fun. That said, I'm worried about his health. He just doesn't look good these days. In fact, I was honestly startled by the videos below. I wish him well and I hope everything is okay in his personal life.

But why bother? Let the video of his bloated carcass do it for me.
That sounds harsh. But it isn't. Living in the public eye, you are subject to a bit more scrutiny. And mockery. And unfair commentary. That is your lot in life. That isn't a call to burden stars with undue intrusions. But it is a reminder that they live the life they live (and/or lived) because they chose to live it in the harsh spotlight.
That some of us would giggle-skip right to the obvious--you must be fat, so what are you doing commenting?--points to a fundamental disjunction in the whole point of all this commentary: what of it? I doubt the 75% suggestion. But, again, what of it? Do our jobs require us to hold to a particular BMI? Are we subject to, and make our money off of, our figures?
Oh, but wait. Why did I mention Cornell then? Simple. Demons are demons. But they haunt us in different ways. And all are subject to consideration. While I was willing to bemoan the loss of Cornell's life before I knew he was intoxicated, I would bemoan Neil's death if it was to happen for any and all reasons. And I wouldn't question either for their motives. I would, however, suggest that the way they look influences the way they impact each of us. And that is unfair. I know that. Neil seems to be living as he wants. Cornell seems to have been having trouble doing the same. Who is the better man? That is a dumb question. But one man is dead. The other is living. The latter person has a chance to do something better by himself and his fans. The former can't. And, sadly, none of us have any chance of telling Neil that he is lucky to be alive. Thing is, none of us can tell Cornell that either.
I won't pull straws. And I won't pull punches. But suggesting that we should be held to an artist's standards reeks of wanting to be more than we are. At the same time, when I now think of Neil and Cornell I feel variations on the same thing: sadness.
I found the simple life...ain't so simple.
