Saxon, 'They Played Rock and Roll' -- Lyric Video

Saxon are back with a new album called Thunderbolt, which will be released February 2. One of the tracks is "They Played Rock and Roll" written about the band Motorhead. The lyric video for the song is below. It's a nice tribute to Motorhead and Lemmy without being sappy or stupid.

Mötorhead homage. It rocks. It’s Saxon. Straightforward, you know what your gonna get rock n roll. Also love the R-A-M-O-N-E-S tribute song Lemmy and company did. The gaps between genres are small and Lemmy adored many from the Beatles to Foo Fighters.

That is just straight-up kick ass!!! Saxon's really been on a roll lately. They sound great. a very well-done tribute to one of my favorite bands. Great stuff!

Another great Motörhead tribute track can be found on Broken Teeth's latest album, the song is called "Never Dead".

Great band that have endured well. First saw them back in early '80's in Leeds around same time as Rainbow, Sabbath, Whitesnake, ACDC. And I believe I may had that Linda Lusardi poster on my bedroom wall!

I’ve seen these guys numerous times, including recently, all point blank (natch), the first at Hammerjack’s in 1986 off “Rock The Nations” in 1986 with the classic line-up. They opened with “Dallas 1 P.M.” and were absolutely KILLER.

I’ve got all their early sh*t on vinyl and CD, even picture sleeve 45’s and 12” singles. And they continually prove again and again the reason why I should start buying their more recent stuff (I’m mostly just “barrowing” music these days through Apple Music).

No doubt, they are the sh*t!

p.s. Hilarious, once again, FUNNY GARY. Linda Losardi? I had to look that one up, London. And now I see why you had her on your wall!

Hey on a side note - everyone probably knows this already but I see Saxon are opening on the Judas Priest tour at least for some dates based on their page - trying to catch that show..

That’s great news, Shawn ... After 38 years, Saxon will finally get an audience with more mainstream American Metalheads who may have never seen them before!
