Doro, 'It Cuts So Deep'

Doro has a new video out for her song "It Cuts So Deep." The song is from the album Forever Warriors, Forever United.

Now it's time for some real talk: I don't like the song much. I'm not a huge Doro or Warlock fan, so maybe that is why. The lyrics seem pedantic. I know some people are rabid Doro fans, so hopefully you're not offended. I've never seen her or Warlock live, so maybe that is amazing experience. Some of the older tracks are good... but this new one doesn't do it for me.

Mad props for the album cover though, Doro still looks amazing.

Allyson, you are not wrong. This sounds like a third-rate Roxette tribute band that is trying to write original songs.

There has always been a certain 'Loudness' factor, at least for me, in liking Pesch's music. She was, and in some ways still is, a novelty act to my ears. I still think that her greatest moment was Warlock's "All We Are." And that was in 1987. Which tells you something. It is her "Crazy Nights."

And no one, and I mean no one, was truly hoping she would release a two disc, over 16 song album, were they? And only one song on _Forever Warriors, Forever United_, "All for Metal," truly rises to the occasion. You know why? It is what she does best-ish: anthemic, slightly cheesy, songs that celebrate metal. Sorta' like "All We Are." Too much of the rest of the release is littered with throwaway ballads such as the one already mentioned. Ballads that remind me of the latter day slide of the Scorps into fondue (if I see another fellow whistling "Winds of Change" in his lady's ear at a concert, I am going throat hit him!). So perhaps it is a German thing? I kid. [And I hope Scorps fans noted that I said latter day. They could write a great ballad back in the day.]

That said, she is an ambassador for metal that still has a big following outside the United States. She seems to exude positivity. She seems to be well-regarded by her peers and could even call Lemmy a friend. And, yes, fellas, I know . . . she was and is attractive.

I guess my point is this: Pesch is harmless, even enjoyable, gouda when she is good, cringe-inducing cheese food when she is not. She deserves credit for sticking with what she knows for the most part. She has made a living out of celebrating metal for over 30 years. That is an accomplishment.

i couldn’t make it through half the song. back in the day when bands did ballads to get on mtv and sell album i’m sure i would’ve dug it. but nowadays i don’t get the point in cheese ballads videos. that said, i saw her in dallas a couple of years ago, and the (small) crowd ate it up. all the rock stuff was great, all the soft stuff made me want to go grab a beer.
