In Case You Ever Wanted To Do A Real Soundcheck

Jack Russell's Great White is going on tour... and for $1,000 you can meet the band and play a song during soundcheck. This is kind of cool and I can see some big fans doing this for sure. I took today off to rest - so enjoy your Monday!

I have always dreamed of doing that - sound check- but not worth $1000 for Jack even though I do like him tremendously. Now if it was GNR I would pay for that. Get some good rest Allyson - hope you have a great day off.

For that kind of money, if you prove in soundcheck that you're a good player, they should let you sit in for the encore or something. At least that package is a unique experience as opposed to just a bunch of collectable trinkets to clutter up your house. Allyson, enjoy your day off to the fullest. Hopefully it'll be filled with only the things that make you happy.

Id rather spend that and get to do this, than hafta pay $750 to see a bunch of old has been, over the hill shirtless codgers in Vegas!

Totally cool. If huge fan it’s worth it. Bob. Your suggestion is good. They should let you sing if you want as well. Don’t all of us think we can belt out “Twice Shy” as good as Jack? Then when your up there it’s like “oh f***, I’m not that good”. Ultimate karaoke!!

Pricing is just about accurate for them. If you want GnR I would imagine it costing $10K. Smaller band like Judas Priest $5K.

This'd be too cool if not so expensive. Could I afford it? Fortunately, yeah, I easily could. Can I already play half the Great White catalogue? Yup. But that's just too much too play 1 freakin' song with Jack and his hired guns. Same reason I'd never pay to do a meet and greet. But it is a really cool idea, and if it's your thing, I say go for it.

The actual list of VIP options is a bit more varied than is suggested in the initial post or the comments, respectfully:

At that top tier (1K), you get quite a bit for your money. But you can drop down to $250 and get a fairly close approximation . . . or keep going until you hit $100 for the last offering that includes soundcheck (with or without Russell, it states), or just pony up $75 for an autograph, laminate, and picture.

I think people are right though. It depends on how much you like this (version of the) band or Russell. I shelled out $100 or so bucks for a VIP meet-and-greet with The Afghan Whigs last year (a gift for a friend I care about): we got a nice swag bag (never will use it except for groceries), a tour shirt, a laminate, a pre-show soundcheck of four songs (which we could film to our heart's content), a large-sized quality tour poster that the band signed during the meet and greet, and a chance to get a picture with the band (which we opted not to do). Not a bad bunch of extras for a person who likes the band. Russell's offerings go above that . . . in terms of what is being offered and what it costs as well. But it seems priced reasonably.

Now don't slag me for mentioning the Afghan Whigs! They had some decent songs. And Dulli's collaboration with Lanegan (of the Screaming Trees), The Gutter Twins, was often inspired. The 2008 release _Saturnalia_ was amazing, particularly the single "Idle Hands" (check out YouTube for the official video and also their performance on Letterman [damn, I miss that man's show]).
