Motley Crue Blows Up Their 'No-More Tours' Contract

I wonder how long the tour deal with Motley, Def Leppard and Poison has been in the works? How much do you think they all stand to make from this? Watch Motley blow up their "no more tours" contract below.

At the time they signed it, they probably were very serious and couldn't imagine playing again. But a few years of playing to crappy crowds and basically not doing much of anything, I'll bet they miss it - it must be pretty hard to replace that feeling/rush of playing to 20,000 people, even with all the BS that comes with that band. Live Nation comes in with $150 million (or whatever it is) and that just cemented it.
Regardless, I've seen them 7 or 8 times in the past 15 years, and I'm probably done. I certainly don't want to see them in a stadium where I'm 50 miles from the stage, and I don't want to pay the hundreds of dollars it will take to get me close.
But we'll see. I'm a sucker for a big rock show. If they play Toronto on a Saturday night in the summer, and I could get a group of friends together....
For the love of money
People would lie to their mother
For the love of money
People would steal from their own brother
For the love of money
People can't even walk the streets
They never know who in the world they're gonna meet
For that mean
Mean green
Oh mighty dollar yeah
Money, money, money, money
Any way I am in -- was really sad when they walked off that stage felt like a piece of me was dying.... Part of my life was closing -- now its open again!!!!!!!!!!!!!11
And of course, I'll go see them again. They could do themselves a favor and play some different setlists since they want to capture these so called new crueheads.
My 3 Cents:
If you're angry that a band is going to tour, even after a farewell tour, then you're not a fan. A fan would embrace the chance to see their favorite band again, no matter what circumstances surround it.
Bands are very complicated. Being in a band is a full-time job, even when not touring or recording. I don't expect fans to understand the dynamic of keeping a band functioning, or functional, but it's a lot harder than you think. A band is made up of band members, each with different personalities, different influences, different goals, different addictions, different problems, different egos, and different ideas. Some members will evolve with age, and some will stay assholes for life. Some may see their part in situations, and some continue to blame others. In many cases, a band or a musician will make rash decisions out of survival and self-preservation. As time passes and tempers calm, a once bad situation may not look that bad when seen though the lucid mind. When that happens, the fans get the greatest gift of all; their favorite band back.
If you love music, if you love Motley Crue, if you love concerts, then you're getting the greatest gift of all. I will never, ever, ever, ever understand how someone using the moniker of "Fan" can be angry about Motley Crue touring again. Contrary to popular belief, a band has enough problems dealing with the band than trying to mastermind a plan to betray its fans. The only betrayal I see is from the so-called fans talking shit about the band. For that, shame on you.
Oh, and Vince will be going under the knife again.
I initially thought the 4th band would be the stadium headliner such as ACDC, but I can't believe that hasn't leaked yet if that's the case. What makes the most sense to me is Bon Jovi. No tour dates listed yet for 2020, and a clear stadium headliner.
Ok, more reading for you rumor buffs
If this article is true, there is no way a fourth band could be someone like AC/DC based on salaries for each band on the tour:
Motley: $2 million/ night
Def Lep: $1 million/night
Poison: $ 250,000/night
I agree with Steverox. I don't think there's a fourth band, it would've been leaked by now.
Nothing wrong with touring well past your prime. I go and see bands that I love do that all the time. Also nothing wrong with going out on top. Once you hit the highs, some bands (well, few bands) feel that nothing is really left to prove.
I also get that feelings change. A new generation discovers your band. So you are all (or some) back in. Time to restart the magic. Time to get the juices flowing. Time to treat the fans, new and old, to the classic sound and the iconic imagery. I even get the idea that you are doing it for the money. If the market will pay, they you might as well play.
But I wish bands would stop saying goodbye. Just stop. Then start again. Simple. Or, in this case, stop making such a big deal about stopping even if we know that they will eventually start again. The contract (yawn). The cost (your choice). The associated merch (really, will I never get a chance to buy stuff like this again?)
Given all of the above, numerous bands have cheated their fans in favor of a quick buck: The Who, KISS, and MC, etc. They played on the emotions of people that loved them, supported them, and 'bought' their mystique. Thing is, they probably knew they could do that. So no harm or foul to the fans that are excited to see them again. They love them. Who wouldn't want to see a band they love(d) again, if they promise not to do it again?
Oh wait. That makes them complicit in the duplicity. But that's cool. No, seriously. I meant that. If you just want to hear the music, who wouldn't love to see the music performed live, regardless of how it actually sounds? And maybe it will sound good. Not canned. Not sweetened. Raw and old school. All the old songs and deeper cuts. I mean, if you went out on top and are now coming back somewhere else, why would you regurgitate a tire set-list (with variations)? If you do that, at least have backing tracks, pyro, and a carnival-like stage show.
And even if you wanted to protest all of this affectation, why bother and who cares? The bands get paid, people show up, and life moves on. Isn't that the magic of music? A band treats you in a way that in almost any other circumstance would make you livid, but you are already there, wallet open, waiting to take them back. Why? They have changed. Things have changed. It will be better this time. Or at least the same as it was.
Thank goodness that this sort of behavior, when it doesn't come to music, hasn't been discussed.
