32 Years of 'Hysteria'

Def Leppard just celebrated the 32nd anniversary of Hysteria, their most successful album. The album is everything to me - I kept my cassette version even though I don't have a tape player! It's pretty nice, reading all the tributes people made for the album on social media. Hysteria is very important to a whole lot of people, including me.

From front to back, absolutely their best album. I know most will go with one of their first 3, but from start to finish & everything in between, Hysteria is the one! Great memories of this cd and the band was in their prime for it. Steve Clark... you are missed. Def Lep was never the same & not even close. Amazing band back in the day.

I don't have Amazon Music (or Spotify or Apple etc.) but I note that following Allyson's "Purchase Hysteria here" link above as an Amazon Prime customer, I can listen to the entire album for free. Sweet.

Talk about a party album! When “Hysteria” first came out, we played side one over and over again until the wee hours of the morning at a party in my friend’s basement and no one tried to change it once!

However, had Def Leppard switched around a couple of tracks on “Pyromania”, they could have made a side one even more party worthy than that of “Hysteria”!

As you can tell, I believe “Pyromania” is the better album, as I’ve said before, solely based on it containing the breakthrough anthem, “Photograph”.

It’s similar to the conundrum one faces when it comes to AC/DC’s “Highway to Hell” vs. “Back In Black”. The latter far outsold the former, but does that make it the better album?

You make some good points Metalboy! Hysteria is one of the definitive party albums and I cannot say anything bad about it. I dont think sales have anything to do with saying which album is better because in the end it's an opinion and its subjective. Hysteria and Pyromania are great, and it's to my belief they both outsold High N Dry, but in my opinion High N Dry is Lepps masterpiece.
