'The Stadium Tour' Continues To Hold Our Ticket Money

Look, there are two options here for The Stadium Tour: cancel outright or reschedule the entire run for 2021. I know that Motley Crue, Def Leppard, Poison and Joan Jett and the Blackhearts were looking forward to the tour (and the giant payday) but it is not happening.

Ohio governor Mike DeWine just extended the stay at home order until May 29. I have tickets for the Cincinnati show on July 2. There is no way we are going from "do not congregate in groups of more than 10" to "come on down to a stadium tour with 30,000 people" in the span of one month. It is simply not happening.

Rage Against The Machine realizes this and went ahead and rescheduled their reunion tour for 2021. At this point, I am more than annoyed and I want my ticket money back. This episode has also changed my thinking on buying concert tickets. For shows I am interested in attending, I was always a pre-sale buyer. No more. Now I will wait until right before the show and pay more on the resale market if necessary. I also have hundreds of dollars tied up in Aerosmith at Fenway Park for the band's 50th anniversary. I doubt that will happen either.

Agreed. I also have tix for Cincy and obviously it’s a no go on July 2. Cancel or reschedule. There is no way anybody associated with this tour is still working on production preparation. They all know. Make a decision, Let us know, stick with it and let’s do this in 2021!

PS - i would be totally OK with a cancellation as there are people in need that could use the cash. That is way more important than the shows at this time.

When you're a monopoly you can create your own rules and change them without a moment's notice when it benefits you.

All three of you are right. I could use my money from DLR and from Krokus for other things, like a new tarp to cover my leaking tent down by the freeway. And, whoever looted my sweet Walmart ten-speed (with a flat tire, no less), I hope you believe in karma. Because I do!

So it is nice when artists like An Chovy and Lame Inside the Machine cancel. Full stop. I bag on them for their music. But I appreciate their respect for their fans. Truly.

I also think that 'some' artists are hiding behind the monolith right now, blaming this on 'the powers that be' when they could, ultimately, make a decision that is in their best interests and those of their fans.

None of us are happy that concerts are being cancelled. None of us are happy that we can't be there, that they can't get paid, and that their staff--and those at the venues, big and small--are losing out too. It's devastating across the board (not to forget the business owners near venues, the drivers that get people safely to and from shows and bars and restaurants, and even the sketchy dudes selling misprint T-shirts when you are leaving the show).

So when monolithic companies play fast and loose with our cash, we don't have a lot of control. But artists are closer to those sources. They have more power, esp. prestige acts that charge a premium. They should use it. The fans will reward them when the concerts come back and the new normal is in the rear view. I think all of us on this site know that we are, generally speaking, low on the totem pole. So it is nice when those above us show they actually realize who is hurting more and who is hurting less.

And, it should be added, this is all about seeing and hearing music _live_. There are a lot of people, still, that are ducking and covering to avoid issues that can impact their _lives_. The news is getting better. That is awesome. But we gotta' keep at if we want that to continue. I know it sucks. I know that is an opinion. But I hope the better angels of our nature win out. I want as many people as possible to be able to dip their toes in the sand, to go out and get sloshed, or even to sneeze on some Plexiglass while making a platter of yuck at their local Golden Corral. Now, sadly, is not the time (in most places . . . given that most places without huge issues will have people from other places with huge issues visiting them when things are more relaxed before they should be).

Hope you are all well. Love this site. As a famous philosopher one said: "Take care of yourselves, and each other."

And as Allyson has pointed out above, I actually changed my ticket buying habits on presales the past couple of years. Whether it be stuck with that extra ticket after someone changes their mind at the last minute or paying for presales to only have the venue put on a "sale" when seats are slow or waiting to the last minute to buy the seat you really want or someone looking to get rid of an extra or two that they have. I almost exclusively now wait between a week or two out right up to concert time to see a show.

I miss the days of buying a ticket you knew was right around the corner to attend. Prepurchasing some of these events soooo far in advance is tough on a lot of people with their schedules. But you know who doesn't have the problem ? 3rd party scalpers.

Ticketmaster is still selling tickets to the Crue / Lep show as we speak.
