45 Years of 'Rocks'

Aerosmith's album Rocks is officially 45. The album remains my favorite of all time - and I do think it is probably the best hard rock album ever made. Rocks is literally perfection from beginning to end. Nothing even comes close to "Nobody's Fault" or "Last Child." Just straight up amazing American rock n' roll.

I defy anyone to find a “filler/throwaway” song on either Toys in the Attic or Rocks. They were just firing on all cylinders then, (until the coke and other assorted goodies that drove the writing of said albums took completely over). I agree Allyson, Rocks is probably the hardest rocking disc they ever put out. The Brad Whitford penned, aforementioned “Nobody’s Fault” still kicks more ass than a pissed off Chuck Norris to this very day. 🤟

What Gary said (and I am used to saying that!). Also, what Allyson said . . . kinda'. I am all for hyperbole (given that I am the best person to ever post on this site!!!). But, really? "It is probably the best hard rock album ever made" is making much ado about something awesome.

I actually wish this was a different post, titled "The Best Hard Rock Album Ever Made." I'd love to hear people's opinions. Please share.

And I hope you take no umbrage at my good natured dig, Allyson. Even if I am the best person to ever post on this site, I still have feelings and care about the feelings of others (who happen to know that I am the best person to ever post on this site).

Nothing touches Back in Black, although for me, Shout at the Devil is the goat.

I hear you, Bkallday. The question is, by nature, so darn subjective. As I have said before, we are locked in by when we first heard something, how it makes us feel, etc. I love both BiB and SatD. Great albums.

For me, though, at this moment, I still reflect back to Boston's first album, Metallica's Master of Puppets, Slayer's Reign in Blood, and Van Halen's first. I never knew an album could be so wonderful on headphones (first one), or that thrash could sound so . . . damn . . . moving (second one), that music could be so cartoonishly aggressive (third one), or so much darn fun (fourth one).

Van Halen’s debut in 1978 knocked me on my ass at the ripe old age of 15. To this day it still does the same. (Although at my age it could be vertigo, an inner ear infection, or or lack of mobility in my joints on any given day) 😂

I was never much of an Aerosmith fan (sorry, Allyson!) and I definitely put Shout At The Devil up there with my faves... but for me, I gotta go with Appetite For Destruction as the #1 hard rock album in my book. Plus, it came out in July of '87 which is the same month/year that my wife and I started dating. So, there's sentimental value there, as well (so much so, that at our wedding we walked into our reception intro to the opening guitar riff from Sweet Child O' Mine! True story!).
