Vince Neil Performs Again After Long Pandemic Break -- It Was Rough

Motley frontman Vince Neil is back on his solo circuit, playing festivals to rock fans. Vince and his band played their first live show in months and months over the weekend and it was pretty rough. Look, these days Vince is not known for being a great live vocalist. We know he skips words. Videos from the performance on May 29 at the Iowa Boone River Festival show something beyond missed and confused vocals.
Vince performed a regular set of Motley classics like "Home Sweet Home," "Looks That Kill" and "Dr. Feelgood." When it was time for the finale and "Girls, Girls, Girls," Vince gave up early saying his voice was "gone." He walked off stage and that was it. The entire set is below. So is a video of the clip where Vince calls it a night.
Look, musicians are going to be rusty their first shows out after a year-plus break from the pandemic. People need to expect that and be prepared for it. Still, I do hope Vince does work with a vocal coach at some point before next summer's tour - there sure are a lot of dates to get through and the tickets are not cheap.

"All these rock stars should've been killed, man. Every single goddamn one of them
Right after John Lennon died, we should've gotten the Partridge Family bus
And driven around and killed them all one by one, you know?
Elvis Presley should have been shot in the head back in 1957
Somebody should've walked up behind Elvis in '57 with a .44 Magnum
Put the barrel of the gun right up to his brainstem and just pulled the trigger
So you can remember Elvis in a nice way, eh?
Wouldn't it be nice to remember Elvis thin, with a big head of hair?
Maybe that gold lamé suit. Wouldn't that be nice, eh?
Because how do you remember Elvis? You know how you remember Elvis
He was found in the toilet
With his pants around his ankles and his big fat hairy sweaty
King of Rock and Roll ass exposed to the world
And his final piece of kingly evidence floating in the toilet behind him! Ugh! Creepy!"
Vince simply does not care... "My voice is shot" - yea welcome to 1998. Go have another drink.
Some bands should really just stay retired.
And yes, I have heard some his previous performances which were so bad they were laughable. In fact, look on You Tube and you will see search lists for Vince Neil's Bad Singing lol. Wow, And I've seen those clips and Lord Almighty, they were terrible. Horrendous even.
That said, I have not given up all hope for him. I saw them last in the summer of 2015 and he was great that night. They all were. He can do it. I just know he can.
He needs to show some discipline. Lose some weight. Get his stamina up. That is possible. He needs to stop being a lazy @#%6 and get in good shape. Age is not a factor. Sure it gets harder the older you get but I've done it and I know it takes discipline and hard work.
Put down the booze and wings and go to the gym. Simple as that.
As many of you know, I stopped bagging on Neil about his weight more than a year ago. Not funny for me anymore. But I can slam the idea that he is 'keeping the spirit of the Crue' alive in the meantime. No. He isn't. And I can question anyone with dollars to spend who wants to see the reunion tour. I am all for nostalgia (case in point: I wanted to see DLR in Vegas; still like Dokken; etc.). But this is just sad.
Maybe he will get in shape. Maybe he will turn this around. Sixx, the grand PR machine that oils the rusty sprockets that make up MC, will say it is all so. But it ain't. And he won't. Instead, it will be hidden (not really) behind buckets of those aforementioned backing tracks, glorious streams of fireworks, Lee doing solos on a pogo stick while he is shot out of a cannon and lands on a trampoline, and people wondering if Mars was created by the people behind The Hall of Presidents.
And I say this all with snark, but also regret. I hate seeing my idols turn out this way. I hate seeing humans who have suffered a lot but also been granted a lot, wasting it on . . . well, you know. About the only thing that could turn this all around is people not paying to see this (and that goes for the promoters). Then, maybe then, Neil might have his meeting with a UFO: rock bottom. Until then, keep dreaming. Neil still does. And those he pays still do. Funny how that works?
