A New Generation of Van Halen Tunes Coming Soon

There is new Van Halen music coming your way... sort of. Wolfgang Van Halen, son of Eddie, will is apparently working on his solo debut. He will do all the vocals and instrumentals on the album. There is no release date yet, but this album has been in the works for years. Honestly I can't wait to hear what Wolfgang creates.

Bon Jovi Release 'Limitless' Single

New music Friday! Bon Jovi has a new song out called "Limitless." It is from the upcoming album 2020, due in mid May. Bon Jovi will tour this summer in support of 2020. I would love to see them, but they are not coming near me and I do not want to spend the money to travel for the show.

Foo Fighters Announce Arena Tour

The Foo Fighters will tour arenas this summer as well. Not glam, but just a great band. The Foos will retrace the venues of their 1995 tour. Click through below to get the dates. There are not a ton of cities but a decent amount across North America to keep fans happy. I have already spent all my summer concert money but I do think this show would be fun.

RATT, Skid Row Tour Rumor

The rumor about the next big summer tour announcement has hit Blabbermouth. The big talk is that RATT, Tom Keifer, Skid Row and Slaughter will hit the road during the warm months. This goes back to the Eddie Trunk tweet I shared a couple days ago. I think this sounds like a fun package. But who headlines - RATT or Skid Row? I guess RATT edges out the Skids, but by a tiny amount. Thoughts?

I Am Done With 'Kickstart My Heart'

The Motley Crue song I never need to hear again is "Kickstart My Heart." Unfortunately, the song is popular and is used in advertisements and at sporting events. The band sometimes opens their shows with the track so I will not be able to completely avoid it. Now the band has a lyric video for "Kickstart My Heart." I do not need to watch or listen but I will share with all of you. Enjoy (I guess).

Music Is Universal, Or, Covers That (Dis-Respectively) Don't Destroy The Original

Today's post is from our friend HIM.

It sorta’ writes itself, doesn’t it? And I am recycling a bit here (then again, being a good steward of the Earth is not a bad thing). But there are some covers that are . . . just . . . plain . . . odious. They stink up the sonic landscape. They make you question life. They almost make you like "Cookie Monster" vocals.

I will provide only two. You do the rest.

Winger, “Purple Haze,” Winger (1988).

With apologies to Allyson all the way back in 2011 (and a nod to all those former posters who, sadly, no longer populate this wonderful site). But no. Gosh no. It sounds like Mr. Chest Hair is having phone sex with himself. Dweezil is on it!  Oh, well, that changes nothing. I can only imagine Hendrix hoping that this crap-tastic castle made of sand fell into the sea of obscurity, eventually. Thing is, Kip (I can call you Kip, right?) has made so many other, good, choices over the years. Heck, he won me over with “Down Incognito.”

Bon Jovi, “The Boys are Back in Town,” New Jersey (1988).

What the hell is wrong with 1988?!?! I am on the record about not loving Jon or the Jovis, save for “In and Out of Love.” Simply put, there is no whiskey in this jar of middling cringe-music. In fact, I wish poor Phil was alive so that he could challenge Jon to a duel (musical, of course). And before you get too excited, I know that even Phil’s version is a cover of a cover of a cover of a cover of a traditional Irish folk song. So let me add this for context: given that Phil is not with us, it would be great if Shane “Did You See My One Good Tooth?” MacGowan decided to challenge Jon to a duel (again, musically) while The Dubliners stood by, clapping, or doing a jig, or protecting their Lucky Charms.

Let loose, great BBG! posters. Bring forth the fury. Add to the fun. Life is too short to listen to bad music, let alone bad covers.
