As you all well know, I am less than enthused about paying respects to our fallen heroes/artist via corporate channels. Magazines like Time and The Week didn't deign to mention Lemmy, or Griffin for that matter.

But having Cooper involved in a tribute is good enough for me. The guy reeks of class, has lived it and done it, came out the other side in a position to help others and has done so consistently. Depp (Keith Richards in lambskin clothing)? Perry (a Toxic Twin with a cookbook to sell)? Well, they are lucky to saddle up next to him in a band named after the excess he lived and breathed (alongside giants such as Moon and Nilsson).

Horns up and head down for Cooper. Polite golf clap for all the rest . . .

Once again. 2 icons and some lucky movie dude who knows 4 chords and the pentatonic scales along for the ride.

Now, now, HIM... Joe Perry's got the cred and Depp's underwriting the whole thing. I'm just glad we're getting some REAL Rock & Roll on The Grammys for a change and it certainly is fitting The Hollywood Vampires are providing what will surely be a rousing tribute.

Also, The New York Times is where you'll nearly always find the best obituary:

Good for the tribute. Its a shame it takes the death of a rock icon for the Grammy's to consider letting a rock act grace the stage.

Now, now gary...Depp was on the sunset strip along with the rest of 'em, slugging away to become a rock star. He ventured into acting and caught a few breaks. just because he makes his living these days as an actor...franchise actor, that is; don't begrudge him. his heart is pure and he does things for the right reasons...as evidenced by the Hollywood Vampires.

It could be worse... Keanu Reeves could revive that grunge crap band of his, "Dogstar". At least Perry, Cooper, McKagan, & Sorum...along with nearly invisible member Tommy Hendrikkson will also be there...

Depp's got the cred, even if his playing ability is limited. If you'll recall, he was an original member of one of THE Greatest Sleaze Rock Bands Ever, ROCK CITY ANGELS!

AND he owns The Viper Room, where many a great band has performed over the years from G'n'R to Hole to Jsne's Addiction, the list goes on and on.

and, according to his interview on Howard...owning the Viper Room does not produce any money...It's a money pit, but he keeps it going because he's trying to keep the spirit alive. He keeps people employed. he keeps memories alive. He does it, because he can afford to do so.
