SIXX: A.M. 'Rise' -- Official Premiere

The other day, I posted a video clip of SIXX: A.M. performing "Rise" live. The video was quickly removed. Now we get the official premiere of "Rise." The song is from the upcoming release Prayers For The Damned, which comes out April 29. What do you think?

I love it. DJ's guitar solo is fantastic.

This song sounds like a lot of today's "positive" message music from what people call "rock stars". Yes I'm old (Mid 40's & proud of it) but most rock today is LAME.

Want a song called Rise? Listen to Rise from The Cult's 2000 Beyond Good & Evil album. (Great workout song) Makes Sixx A.M. look like calculated, safe rock n roll. Hmm maybe it is.

Generic pop sound, Crappy singer, uninspiring song. I really had high hopes for this, but try as I may, I can't get into this band. I'm not even sure what "sound" they are trying to go for? Is it Top 40, Adult Contemporary, or AOR? Regardless, they are terrible.

Its their singer....he is horrible. Sounds like every other "modern" rock band...bland.

Sixx Am has been hit or miss with me. I love a lot of their songs, but the albums don't really go together great, (for me anyways). The closest has been Modern Vintage, that album was okay as a whole, but the rest are just handfuls of good songs with filler. I honestly don't know what to think of this song yet. Although I'm a huge Nikki Sixx fan, I'm not gonna jump on the bandwagon and say everythung he does is amazing. One thing I really did love was the Brides Of Destruction "Here Come The Brides" album.

I like it overall. It aint great, but its still better than anything Crue has done in 15 years. And I cant believe people dont like the singer. James Michael is amazing. So much better than so many other radio-rock singers out there. Sheesh.

Kixchix: "Safe"
Jeff: "Generic", "Crappy", "Terrible"
JAT: "Horrible"
Spyke: "ZZZZZ..."
DJ: "Hit or Miss"

I agree with all of the above... "Rise" is total shite!

JT, Kenny O... Are we sure we're listening to the same song?

this song is pure generic modern rock garbage. Whenever I hear people raving about stuff like this, I always wonder...Suppose someone played this song for you without telling you who it is. If you had no idea that one of your rock idols is involved with it, would you still like the song purely on its own merits? I'd venture to say that the praise for it would go down significantly. It's just like the absolutely god awful Van Halen album with Gary Cherone on vocals. If that album was released under some other unknown band name, it would have tanked, but because the Vh name was on it, it sold way better and received way more praise than it should have. And Kixchix, I feel ya where new rock is concerned. The sad part is that there are actually lots of young bands out there making truly kick ass hard rock, but American radio will never play them. At least in America, so-called rock music is still rooted in the grunge sound of the 90s.

What you all said . . . and what I said the last time this song was discussed here.

I suspect, outside a very niche demographic, that (wait for it) "Rise" will quickly fall to the wayside.

Bob, I want some of that kick ass rock to come my way. Your right, seems most bands sound like a hard Nickelback with some lame growling or weak screams. Gimme singers, (Dio, Halford, Dickinson); gimme guitars (Tipton, downing, Angus, Vai, DiMartini, Lynch, Bratta) where are the peeps that can play?????

Kixchix and Bob, I don't want to invoke your wrath. But I am going to nod to two bands--one newer and one older--that point the way. Neither of them are glam. Still, both point towards a healthy future if fans give music the chance it deserves.

Older: I think the newest Megadeth album--for all of Mustaine's flaws and oddities--is a solid album musically. Lyrically, well, some of it makes me cringe. But that reflects Mustaine's views and that is on him. His newest guitarist, Loureiro, sounds amazing to me (and if I was more aware of newer music I guess I would have known about him sooner).

Newer: Ghost. I know this will inspire people to slam me. But they create a great overall vibe and mood, and do so with theatrics and straight-ahead rock and pop accents that harken back to BOC. The theatrics are an integral part of their up-take and growth. But it led people to their abilities, and doesn't detract from them.

There are a number of throwback bands--Resurrection Kings surprised me in how old school they sounded, while still sounding great--that also do some heavy lifting in the name of the older sounds and feelings that bands like Saxon, Accept, and others still trade in. And numerous posters here--Metalboy! being one of the big ones--points to those bands that are struggling to find a fair hearing while still tearing it up, esp. those that uphold the Glam crown.

So let's crowd-source this: which older bands still bring it? which newer ones give us faith? On a site like this, I feel like it would be a missed opportunity not to ask for advice.

[Sidebar: circling back to Sixx for a moment, no one needs his splattered in red paint shtick. Monroe is still bringing it. An influence is once again an originator, as those he influenced go chasing fool's gold that they will likely never find. On that very simple point, one can add this coda: be careful when you give up the inspirations that pushed you to be great in a search for something that makes you relevant. In the end, you will likely tarnish the one and fail to find the second.]

Nice one, HIM! And, Kixchix, I second that emotion, like Bob says, there are SO many new bands that k*ck ass! There are a treasure trove of new bands who've got the chops. Check out www.heavyharmonies.com and click on "Best of 2015" and start diggin'.

I like Cats In Space, The Tip (Allyson discovery!), Diemonds, Tonk, Station, Sargeant Steel (much better and funnier than Steel Panther!), Suicide Bombers, and The Wild!, to name a few off the top of my head.

And I agree with HIM -- Ghost is excellent!

A couple of bands who are very rough around the edges now, but who have a lot of potential are Loaded Gun and Tailgun. Also check out a band called Love and a .38, as well as a band out of Montreal called Sleazy way Out. I could easily think of more, but I simply must go to work.

HIM: No wrath here lol. Thanks for the tips HIM, MB and Bob

Color me surprised. Yet another guitar solo layered with enough wah wah pedal to make Hendrix flinch. Song could've been done by any of today's AOR Nickleback cloned bands. Wasn't bad, wasn't great.

I'm a Ghost fan also Him,as we've discussed previously. They just write catchy stuff, once you get by the (my guess is very highly contrived) Satanic nonsense. That being said, Ole Scratch sure has sold a shit ton of music over the years for people though, hasn't he? Lmao

Just had to say that this is garbage, Ghost is garbage, and Sixx can eat one. Rock on

Bob, Tailgun is amazing. I saw them open up for Steel Panther a few weeks ago and they blew me away. I still think Black Veil Brides are the real deal and are going to be future headliners. I'm not big on Ghost but I can defiantly see the appeal they have to people and what they can do for the scene. A couple bands that you should check out that are just getting in my radar is Wilson and Turbowolf. Wilson is just a straight up ass kicking rock band that don't sound like a ripoff or throwback, it's rock n roll but it's freSh. Turbowolf has their own thing going om, it's kind of a weird style of music but I really love it.

Thanks for the suggestions, Bob and Dj. And glad that my somewhat left-field suggestions didn't hit a discordant note, Kixchix.

Yes, Bob, the act often gets in the way of the music with Ghost. Which is a shame, as the act is actually fascinating to watch, especially when the audience is really into it. Some of the live posts of them getting audiences to sing along to "Year Zero" are amazing. And Papa I-III really seems to be getting the lounge-singer stage banter down pat. He (aka Tobias Forge) seems to be relishing this continued growth/success. Not only that, he seems to be a bit "heavier"as of late, or perhaps the new costume just makes it look that way (I still prefer the Mach II look, a lot more ominously hilarious). But it is an act. If they are Satanic, BOC is an actual cult.

And . . . holy smokes! Bkallday and I agree on one more thing (I think, and I will put the Ghost slam to the side). With all sincerity, bkallday, why would you tell Sixx to "eat one" (your colorful verbiage always gets me). Seriously, though, what is the reason? Just when I think I have you pegged, another layer of the Bloomin' Onion is peeled back.
