Skynyrd died 40 years ago. Its nice that this tribute band is calling it a day.

I totally get your point, Kenny. But they do put on a good show.

I have seen several iterations of this version of the band, including being lucky enough to see them with the incredible Billy Powell. And they always delivered a high energy nostalgic romp. It never felt, at least to me, that they were doing an injustice to the original band. If anything, they always made sure to spell out just how indebted they were to the original band and how they were trying to honor the spirit of the same. But, again, I get your point: it was a tribute.

So, while I always enjoyed seeing them as part of some summer package tour, I won't mourn their loss. That is saved for the original players that I was too young ever to get a chance to see.

@Him - you are correct ......I was not old enough to have seen the originals but growing up in the south they were mandatory listening. I did manage to catch the 87 reunion tour at Shoreline Amphitheater which I thought was special but I also see MB's point. I have been very conflicted with Ricky and Huey (RIP) filling in those shoes. Oh I forgot Billy Powell was a awesome player. Al Cooper or one of MCA's management (Tom Dowd?) said that Johnny can sing but he can't write and Donny could write but not sing in regards to the two younger brothers when questioned why he had not signed them. If I want to hear the real deal i just throw on One More From the Road and close my eyes.

I see a lot of shows at Shoreline, Shawn. A generally great venue for summer festival shows and the like. If only they were a bit less restrictive these days with pre-functions in the parking lot (and/or if there were off-site spaces still available for them that Google hadn't gobbled up!).

And you have a point: nothing will ever compare to the original. So I agree with that too.

I thought Shoreline was in your backyard :) also saw GnR and Aerosmith, Whitesnake and Great White there and the parking lot sometimes was as good as the concert LOL....

Agreed. The parking lot is often as much fun as the concert. Other perk nowadays: a beer in the lot doesn't cost $15!
