Deep Purple, 'Throw My Bones' -- New Video

Today's post is from our friend HIM:

I love that bands I admire are still making music and still making videos (not just lyric videos). I find this video humorous, in a particularly British way (note the wave while the airplane gets ready to transition to the runway). It is also well done visually. My only complaint? I wish you never saw the astronaut’s face. I prefer if it remained a blank slate, save for the cheeky reference to the previous album.

As I noted a few months ago, I saw Purple with Joyous Wolf in Reno not too long ago. The young band was entertaining, relishing the chance they had and making the most of it. But Purple held their own, as well they should. And Gillen sounded better than he did the last time I saw them, on tour with Priest at Shoreline. That was the show where Priest sounded tired. But Purple were spry (both times), for their respective ages.

Granted, Gillan will never sound like he did again (I still love Born Again, as it was such an odd pairing and good set of songs; heck, I even like the throwaway Gillan's Inn, given the song choices and collaborators). Blackmore is gone, true. But I am quite happy with Morse. Sure, it is different. But things change, right? And I certainly miss Lord. But Airey does a great job (and I am hoping he is feeling better after having to cancel a show for health reasons). Paice? What’s not to love? Glover? He wears that bandanna with aplomb.

Ezrin seems to fit Purple at this moment in time. I really enjoyed Now What?! For me, Infinite was okay. I hope this album is closer to the former in mood and tone. Who knows? At this point, Purple can pretty much do whatever they want. But I certainly want to hear them, and see them, again.

Your thoughts?

It’s alright, I guess. Can’t say I’ll be putting this on repeat or that this stacks up to the classic period (which for me goes from In Rock until Come Taste the Band). But, I’m glad for them that they keep going and keep making perfectly decent music.

oper8n Dang man hope you and the family are staying safe - In your line of work you are on the front lines. So far still at a low risk in our small corner of the world. Great to see you post.

On another note somewhat musically related -- Check out Taj Farrant on you tube the kid is amazing.
