Sonic Temple Festival, Welcome To Rockville, Epicenter Canceled

More Covid-19 cancellations... these shows were set for May. Keep an eye on M3 Rockfest and Rocklahoma. I don't see how either of these go on at this point. Looks like ticket refunds will be issued automatically for Sonic Temple and Rockville. There are some other options too if you are a ticket holder. Read below.

MTV Rockumentary: Aerosmith

Another Covid-19 isolation entertainment post! Today, a classic MTV Rockumentary from 1989. This one focuses on Aerosmith. I remember watching this back in the day (seriously!). This was before my love of Aerosmith but I was an MTV junkie by 1989, so I pretty much watched everything on the network. Enjoy!

Plus, a warning. Trump is signaling that he wants to end the social distancing/work from home/lockdowns and just put everything "back to normal." This would lead to calamity in the near term. The Surgeon General, meanwhile, is pleading for people to stay home.

Please Listen To Sammy and Paul

I was not very productive yesterday. I ended up taking a long nap and just generally resting. That probably isn't such a bad thing right now considering. Still, I absolutely have to get a ton of things set up for my week ahead or I will be drastically behind. Such is the nature of my work right now.

Sammy Hagar and Paul Stanley have some advice regarding the Covid-19 pandemic. Sammy did a little video PSA... yes his hair looks terrible. I honestly did laugh out loud.

And this. I think we will need to isolate a little longer. But if we stay aggressive perhaps we'll get to see some of those summer concerts we've been looking forward to for so long now.

MTV Rockumentary: Van Halen

Sitting around with nothing to do but cleaning and laundry? Of course you are! Why not watch a classic MTV Rockumentary? BBG! friend Kari sent along a good one last night. The focus on Van Halen is from 1989 and is all good. See below.

I also wanted to pass along that Audible just made a ton of titles free for enjoyment during this unique time of home isolation. A lot of titles are aimed at kids but there are many literary classics and other titles for adults too. NPR has a nice list of things that are free right now during the Covid-19 pandemic including concerts, exercise and (classic) sports subscriptions.

Last night was a little chaotic for me. I've long been told I would not be a work-from-home employee because 1) I work in an industry that does not shutdown ever and 2) I'm a critical employee. Which is fine because I (usually) like going to the office. By 3 p.m. the decision changed and office workers were being told to plan on working from home, for at least awhile. Eric is already working from home and has completely taken over my office. Thus I had no office furniture. Considering everyone else is working from home - or suddenly doing so - it was incredibly difficult to source furniture quickly. It took me more than two hours to find a small desk and chair within a 60 mile radius of my house. So I ordered online and went this morning to retrieve before there were any crowds. I was lucky to get my items - the store was picked clean and I got the last small desk available apparently. I also realize how blessed I am that I could just buy these items without really worrying about the cost.

Later today, we plan on getting takeout from my favorite local Mexican place. This has to be killing them - and all the mom & pop eateries - across the country. Most will not survive this. Horrific.

Be kind to each other and try to look for the positives. We will get through this together but it won't be easy or fun. But we still have our music!

Pandemic Playlist Last Night

How are we doing family? This is a mental health check-in. A lot of people are already getting really grumpy and are on edge. That is bad news because social distancing and isolation are not ending anytime soon. In fact, things are going to get worse before they get better and the economic fallout from the Covid-19 pandemic is going to be vast. Make sure you take time to unplug and do something to relax. I like to exercise. Last night I was so tired when I got home from work and I still forced myself on the elliptical machine. Eric was on the treadmill at the same time, listening to an absolutely dreadful playlist. So I jammed some earbuds in and suffered through 30 minutes. Afterward, I did feel better. So what was my playlist last night?

"Ten Thousand Feet," "Follow Your Leader," and "Electric Forest" all by I See Stars plus "Foolin'," "Pour Some Sugar On Me," "Animal," by Def Leppard and "Last Child" by Dirty Honey.

I did not have it in me to lift weights.

Oh and remember to live in reality during this crisis. Institutions will not save you. The lies will catch up and may have deadly consequences.

How To Help Musicians During This Time

The Covid-19 pandemic has thrown the American economy into recession. There is no question. With so many businesses closed and people out of work, there is no way around it. I saw a stat online yesterday that something like 18% of American workers have lost hours or jobs because of this disease. Because of this, you need to do everything you can to protect your own capital reserves. I try to live my life like I am always in a recession: no debt except for a mortgage, an emergency fund and the ability to cut unnecessary bills (like streaming services for example) if required. Not everyone can live this way and I am privileged more than most. So this post is for people like me who have some financial runway. For everyone else, you are now in what Dave Ramsey calls "storm mode." Batten down the hatches and save as much as possible.

Musicians are struggling like restaurant and travel industry workers. Concerts are a want not a need and now crowds are essentially banned in America (and most of the world). This may be a time of creative force. Musicians may use their downtime to write songs and that is a silver lining. Non-wealthy acts will struggle to stay afloat because touring is not an option. Help these acts by buying their albums, either physical or digital and pick up T-shirts. Some musicians are doing guitar lessons on Cameo. I know Tracii Guns is doing that right now. Acts like Def Leppard, Motley Crue, Springsteen and those folks do not need help. The Tweet below has more information on how you can help musicians during this special time.
