An intimate look at the life and music of Tom Petty is coming to theaters for one night, on October 20. The film is called Tom Petty, Somewhere You Feel Free: The Making of Wildflowers and has great reviews from film critics who have already screened the film. The link to buy tickets is in the bottom tweet. The film will also be on YouTube eventually.

Why Didn't Enuff Z'Nuff Get Huge?

I was on the way to physical therapy this morning and clicked around my SiriusXM while driving. I honestly don't listen to Hair Nation that much anymore because it is so repetitive but "New Thing" by Enuff Z'Nuff popped on and I stopped to listen. I love that song - it is just catchy and fun.

While driving I sort of wondered... "Why didn't Enuff Z'Nuff blow up with fame?" The band's self-titled album came out in 1989, which should have been a slam dunk. Sure, videos for "New Thing" and "Fly High Michelle" got heavy enough rotation on MTV but that debut still didn't go platinum or anything like many of their contemporaries.

For whatever reason, Enuff Z'Nuff is one of those criminally underrated acts. People seem to dig the music when it comes on but never really think of them organically. Like, how often do you recall the band being mentioned in "best-of" lists? Or even just being beloved by a close friend? Donnie Vie and Chip Z'Nuff had an amazing chemistry for songwriting. Perhaps the Glam label doomed them. Listening to the catalog, the band is probably more pop than hair metal... I guess? The sound is hard to categorize. EZN was probably marketed all wrong. Folks regarded them as Poison copycats - which is a shame. Also, drummer Vik Foxx looks hot as hell in the video below!

Rob Halford Advertises Insurance

Rob Halford of Judas Priest is using his famous pipes to help sell Plymouth Rock insurance. He's in a new campaign... singing, of course. I hope Halford made bank from this. I mean that genuinely.

So Now You Can Get A Nikki Sixx Mugshot Tee

Do you need this? No. Do you want it? Maybe. Nikki Sixx is selling items featuring his mugshot including T-shirts and mugs. This is part of his Sixx on Sixx drop collection. I'm personally gonna hard pass on this one. Mugshots are trashy and I don't need to be see around town wearing one. Of course, Nikki realizes this isn't classy in the Tweet below. I think that makes it more rock n' roll to him. I will file this one under #YouDoYou

News Of The Week Roundup: Week 37, 2021

It's officially the last weekend of summer and it was a crazy hot one in my neck of the woods. Fall will officially be here on Wednesday. That means colder, shorter days. Most people love fall. I don't care for the season much because it means winter is close at hand.

This past week had a lot of news headlines. Stories were kind of all over the place.

The city of Pasadena, California wants to pay tribute to Eddie Van Halen. There might be a park named after him!

Remember, even (big) cats can get COVID-19:

Democratic California Governor Gavin Newsom easily beat back naysayers during Tuesday's recall election. The fiasco wasted over $200 million in taxpayer money.

The search continues for missing travel blogger Gabby Petito. Now her boyfriend, Brian Laundrie, is also missing (or in hiding). Laundrie is apparently the last person to see Gabby alive. He wouldn't cooperate with police or give them any information, which is definitely... odd. This story is very weird.

A U.S. drone strike in Afghanistan killed 10 innocent civilians. The strike was aimed at Taliban fighters. The Pentagon admitted the mistake after media investigations. The CIA did try to send a warning that the area was full of kids - but the warning wasn't relayed in time. Tragic.

And I leave you with this:

Aerosmith Announce 'Record Store Day' Release

My beloved Aerosmith will release The Road Starts Hear, a rare early recording from 1971. The release will be available on vinyl and cassette: throwback! The release features tracks that eventually landed on the band's self-titled debut including "Dream On." The quality might be hit or miss - it's from Joe Perry's tape recorder!

Record Store Day is also "Black Friday" in America, the big shopping bonanza the day after Thanksgiving. I believe Record Store Day releases are extremely limited, so this will be a great collector's piece.
