The Difference Between Jon Bon Jovi and Vince Neil Live

Bon Jovi is on tour right now. By all accounts, a lot of the shows are sounding rough. Looking through YouTube, it is hard to disagree with this. Jon Bon Jovi has been pretty upfront, talking about how hard Covid-19 hit him and it messed up his voice and stamina. Bon Jovi is doing live songs in a lower key these days and that is good.

Now, Jon does not sound as rough as Vince Neil but I have seen some comparisons online. That isn't fair because there is a major difference here: it is pretty clear Jon is still trying as hard as he can and Vince... doesn't. I have seen Motley Crue live in concert more than a dozen times and Vince Neil solo a whole bunch too, so it isn't like I'm not a big fan. I'm just calling a spade a spade here. For my money in 2022, I would choose Bon Jovi over Motley Crue live, even knowing both singers are struggling these days. What do you think?

Nikki Sixx To Guest On 'American Idol' Sunday Night

Despite past comments mocking American Idol, Nikki Sixx will be a guest on the show tomorrow night. The judges go to the Sunset Strip to find talent, thus Nikki's appearance. He will perform the bass solo of "Home Sweet Home," one of Motley Crue's most famous tracks.

Here's a preview of the appearance. It sort of sounds like Nikki is playing... at least a little. It is hard to tell with the backing track of the actual song.

Another Date Added To The Stadium Tour

The Stadium Tour will head to Las Vegas on September 9. I wonder if this means more added dates will be popping up soon? That's a Friday night, so prime concert time. The date isn't on Motley Crue's website yet, so I'm not sure when tickets go on sale.

Good Lord - Now This Feud Is On The Sports Pages

Now Barstool Sports of all sites is covering the Twitter feud between Nikki Sixx and Eddie Vedder. Apparently Vedder hit back at Sixx at a live show recently, mocking Tommy Lee's drum setup. Seems like Barstool is on Nikki's side on this one. Personally, I think Sixx and Vedder called each other up and figured out how to juice this "feud" for more money on each side. We're all the suckers.

Eddie Vedder Apparently Hates Motley Crue; Nikki Sixx Is Not Amused

Eddie Vedder of Pearl Jam recently did an interview with The New York Times Magazine as part of a press tour to promote his new solo release. During the chat, he spoke about how he despised Motley Crue and 80s hair metal in general. Here's the pullout quote:

Do you think any ripples from that Gen X, alt-culture explosion extended to the present?

You know, I used to work in San Diego loading gear at a club. I’d end up being at shows that I wouldn’t have chosen to go to — bands that monopolized late-’80s MTV. The metal bands that — I’m trying to be nice — I despised. “Girls, Girls, Girls” and Mötley Crüe: [expletive] you. I hated it. I hated how it made the fellas look. I hated how it made the women look. It felt so vacuous. Guns N’ Roses came out and, thank God, at least had some teeth. But I’m circling back to say that one thing that I appreciated was that in Seattle and the alternative crowd, the girls could wear their combat boots and sweaters, and their hair looked like Cat Power’s and not Heather Locklear’s — nothing against her. They weren’t selling themselves short. They could have an opinion and be respected. I think that’s a change that lasted. It sounds so trite, but before then it was bustiers. The only person who wore a bustier in the ’90s that I could appreciate was Perry Farrell.

Ok, so an interview with The New York Times Magazine is a big deal and it garners a lot of attention. It's no surprise, then, that Nikki Sixx saw the piece and took offense. I mean, he did create Motley Crue. So of course, he vented on Twitter.

Now, I don't think I would categorize Pearl Jam as one of the "most boring bands" - but point taken. We went from 80s glam heyday awesomeness where shows were a big deal and people got dressed up to have fun and then to the 90s where you could look homeless and not move around on stage. Pearl Jam's debut Ten came out in 1991, so I was still quite young. You'll note that the date also overlaps with some still-great glam metal albums coming out too. I owned Ten and loved a lot of those songs (but I never need to hear "Jeremy again!") and I still think it's a good rock record. I owned the follow-up Vs. and then Vitalogy too, and I still think neither was as good as the debut. I never purchased another Pearl Jam album after Vitalogy. I still own - and have owned in many formats - every Motley Crue release. It's all about perspective and personal preference I guess. I just know which band makes music for a fun time and it isn't Vedder's bunch.

Sunday's Best: Week 2, 2022

Welcome to Sunday's Best, where we talk about something random and probably ridiculous. This week, let's discuss some of the craziest Motley Crue interviews of all time. Let me know which clip is your favorite... and if you found something better to share!

Back in 1984, Motley played at Donnington. They were interviewed backstage... and they were on something.

Also in the early 80s, Motley Crue was interviewed backstage before a show in Germany. Scroll to about 2:30 for the interview. Like always, Tommy Lee fidgets, smiles and whips around his drumsticks the entire time... and Mick Marks just looks like he wants it to be over.

In 1985, punk legend Wendy O. Williams makes Tommy Lee and Vince Neil shy during an interview. Don't worry, Tommy tries to play it cool by smoking a cigarette during the convo.

Then there's this oddity - from when Nikki was married to Donna D'Errico. Access Hollywood did a feature on their home life with their kids.

Motley Crue Cashes In

Add Motley Crue to the growing list of artists cashing in by selling their catalogs. BMG has acquired the rights to the entire catalog netting the Crue around $150 million bucks. Honestly, I would have pegged the catalog to be worth more, at least around $200 million. The article linked via the Tweet says the deal may be worth "significantly" less than $150 million.

Assuming the $150 million is correct, that is a lot of dough and like most artists, I suppose Nikki Sixx and Mick Mars decided the time was right to cash in (again) on their life's work. I wonder how much Vince Neil and Tommy Lee will get from the deal?
