The Best Guitar Solos Of All Time: Number 10

Happy Wednesday - time for the countdown of the best guitar solos of all time to continue. Rocking in at number 10 is Prince with "Purple Rain." A straight-up musical genius, Prince could just plain slay when it came to playing guitar. One of his finest moments is the solo during "Purple Rain" which starts around 4:30 or so in the video below.

When Prince would perform this track live, it often went on for about 20 minutes as he would extend the solo and really illustrate his guitar skills. A lot of people lump Prince in with pop music, but I think "Purple Rain" makes him a definite rock god. The song is from the blockbuster album and film of the same name, released in 1984.

Prince was taken from us way too soon. Perhaps fittingly, "Purple Rain" was the last song he ever performed live for an audience.

Prince's 2007 NFL Super Bowl halftime performance is regarded as iconic. He played through some really bad weather, including a downpour during "Purple Rain." Once again that solo is undeniable. The performance is still breathtaking to me, all these years later.

The Best Guitar Solos Of All Time: Number 11

Rolling into our countdown of the best rock guitar solos... today we are at number 11.

"No More Tears" is probably my favorite Ozzy Osbourne track. The song always gets me going - I love listening to it while driving or while working out. Guitarist Zakk Wylde contributed to the legendary solo. It is the best part of the track. The song is on the album of the same name, released in 1991.

"No More Tears" was written by Ozzy Osbourne, Zakk Wylde, Mike Inez, Randy Castillo and John Purdell. Enjoy some of Wylde's best work below.

The Best Guitar Solos Of All Time: Number 12

I thought it would be fun to countdown my picks for the greatest rock guitar solos of all time. Today we'll start with number 12: "Afterlife" by Avenged Sevenfold. The song is on the band's 2007 self-titled album. "Afterlife" actually is not my favorite A7X track - that will probably always be "Unholy Confessions." Still, the guitar work in "Afterlife" cannot be ignored. It is just great work.

The guitar solo is performed by Synyster Gates and starts around the 2:50 mark. The track was written by late Avenged Sevenfold drummer The Rev.

Come back tomorrow and see what song I chose to come in at number 11!

News Of The Week Roundup: Week 22, 2021

Here are a few stories I found interesting over the past week. We start with some breaking Royal news: The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge have welcomed a new baby. The baby is a girl and named Lilibet “Lili” Diana Mountbatten-Windsor. Talk about a name that screams "money!"

Nigeria is blocking its residents access to Twitter after the social platform blocked a Tweet by the nation's leader for violating the site's terms. The country literally announced the ban... via a Tweet. From the CNN article:

"Many of those misbehaving today are too young to be aware of the destruction and loss of lives that occurred during the Nigerian Civil War. Those of us in the fields for 30 months, who went through the war, will treat them in the language they understand," Buhari wrote in the now-deleted tweet, referring to the brutal two-year Nigeria-Biafra war, which killed an estimated one to three million people, mostly from the Igbo tribe in the eastern part of the country between 1967-1970. The tweet was deleted Wednesday after many Nigerians flagged it to Twitter and the platform said it had violated its policy on abusive behavior.

Then there's this batshit crazy insanity that Donald Trump believes he will be "reinstated" as President in August. That isn't how any of this works... at all.

The strong reopening of the American economy after mass vaccinations is having a great impact on jobless claims. More folks found work last month - and (some) wages are rising, too.

Speaking of COVID-19 - if you haven't been vaccinated yet and you are an American, please do so. That's because we have all been offered free beer if we hit 70% of the country vaxxed by July 4!

Lots of financial fallout from the pandemic continues... and on the other side of the tracks, you can spend $450 on a chocolate. That was how much I spent per month on rent in my first apartment.

Another big move in the NFL - with Julio Jones changing teams.

Also, gross:

And I leave you with this (and I disagree - do you?):

L.A. Rats Release First Official Video

L.A. Rats, the supergroup featuring Nikki Sixx, Rob Zombie, John 5 and Tommy Clufetos, just released their first official video. The video is for the song "I've Been Everywhere." We previously saw a lyric video for the track. Now the video shows the animated band members traveling across America. Here's hoping we get a different song from the group soon. Honestly, I had higher hopes for this cover. I thought the song would grow on me, but it has not. Still, enjoy the video. Seems like Nikki is being extra creative these days.

Mammoth WVH, 'Don't Back Down' -- New Video

Mammoth WVH just released a live clip video for the song "Don't Back Down." The song is on the upcoming debut album due June 11. I am digging this track and the video - and I will get the album next Friday, too. New rock for the weekend!

Do You Think The Owner's Love Poison?

HGTV posted this kitchen last night... asking for fans to describe it in 3 words on less. Those three words are, of course, "bring back glam!"

I feel like the owners of this house have to love the band Poison. That green (and pink!) are undeniable. I love it. Then again, I love modern design. The cabinets and bar stools are lit.
